A new and improved kitchen layout that is perfect for this young family of four. With ample storage in the kitchen island and upper cabinets, we were able to keep the design low-maintenance and easy to keep clean, as clutter would have taken away from the light and airy aesthetic. A light gray kitchen island and subway tile backsplash paired with the bright white countertops and cabinets gave the space a refreshing contemporary look. Darker gray contrasts with the lighter color palette through the stainless steel appliances and unique pendant lights. To the corner of the kitchen, you'll find a discreet built-in study. Fully equipped for those who work from home or for the children to finish school projects. This small office-kitchen space duo is perfect for bringing the whole family together, for meals and throughout the day. From little things, big things grow. This project originated with a request for a custom sofa. It evolved into decorating and furnishing the entire lower floor of an urban apartment. The distinctive building featured industrial origins and exposed metal framed ceilings. Part of our brief was to address the unfinished look of the ceiling, while retaining the soaring height. The solution was to box out the trimmers between each beam, strengthening the visual impact of the ceiling without detracting from the industrial look or ceiling height. We also enclosed the void space under the stairs to create valuable storage and completed a full repaint to round out the building works. A textured stone paint in a contrasting colour was applied to the external brick walls to soften the industrial vibe. Floor rugs and window treatments added layers of texture and visual warmth. Custom designed bookshelves were created to fill the double height wall in the lounge room. With the success of the living areas, a kitchen renovation closely followed, with a brief to modernise and consider functionality. Keeping the same footprint, we extended the breakfast bar slightly and exchanged cupboards for drawers to increase storage capacity and ease of access. During the kitchen refurbishment, the scope was again extended to include a redesign of the bathrooms, laundry and powder room.

The Naekel’s have a beautiful 1911 home with the typical closed in kitchen for that era. We opening up the wall to the dining room with a new structural beam, added a half bath for the main floor and went to work on a gorgeous kitchen that was mix of a period look with modern flair touches to give them an open floor plan, perfect for entertaining and gourmet cooking.

Originally a church and community centre, this Northside residence has been lovingly renovated by an enthusiastic young couple into a unique family home. The design brief for this kitchen design was to create a larger than life industrial style kitchen that would not look lost in the enormous 8.3meter wide “assembly hall” area of this unassuming 1950’s suburban home. The inclusion of a large island that was proportionate to the space was a must have for the family. The collation of different materials, textures and design features in this kitchen blend to create a functional, family-friendly, industrial style kitchen design that feels warm and inviting and entirely at home in its surroundings. The clients desire for dark charcoal colour cabinetry is softened with the use of the ‘Bluegrass’ colour cabinets under the rough finish solid wood island bench. The sleek black handles on the island contrast the Bluegrass cabinet colour while tying the island in with the handless charcoal colour cabinets on the back wall. With limited above bench wall space, the majority of storage is accommodated in 50-65kg capacity soft closing drawers under deep benchtops maximising the storage potential of the area. The 1meter wide appliance cabinet has ample storage for small appliances in tall deep drawers under bench height while a pair of pocket doors above bench level open to reveal bench space for a toaster and coffee machine with a microwave space and shelving above. This kitchen design earned our designer Anne Ellard, a spot in the final of KBDI’s 2017 Designer Awards. Award winners will be announced at a Gala event in Adelaide later this year. Now in its ninth year, the KBDi Designer Awards is a well-established and highly regarded national event on the Australian design calendar. The program recognises the professionalism and talent of Australian kitchen and bathroom designers. What the clients said: ” The end result of our experience with Anne and Kitchens by Kathie is a space that people walk into and everyone says “Wow!”. As well as being great to look at, it’s a pleasure to use, the space has both great form and function. Anne was extremely responsive to any issues or concerns that cropped up during the design/build process which made the whole process much smoother and enjoyable. This character villa required a modern kitchen, bathroom and laundry. Concrete floor tiles teamed up with chunky timber and textured whites to provide a memorable, industrial style.

The brief for this project involved completely re configuring the space inside this industrial warehouse style apartment in Chiswick to form a one bedroomed/ two bathroomed space with an office mezzanine level. The client wanted a look that had a clean lined contemporary feel, but with warmth, texture and industrial styling. The space features a colour palette of dark grey, white and neutral tones with a bespoke kitchen designed by us, and also a bespoke mural on the master bedroom wall.
