Originally a church and community centre, this Northside residence has been lovingly renovated by an enthusiastic young couple into a unique family home. The design brief for this kitchen design was to create a larger than life industrial style kitchen that would not look lost in the enormous 8.3meter wide “assembly hall” area of this unassuming 1950’s suburban home. The inclusion of a large island that was proportionate to the space was a must have for the family. The collation of different materials, textures and design features in this kitchen blend to create a functional, family-friendly, industrial style kitchen design that feels warm and inviting and entirely at home in its surroundings. The clients desire for dark charcoal colour cabinetry is softened with the use of the ‘Bluegrass’ colour cabinets under the rough finish solid wood island bench. The sleek black handles on the island contrast the Bluegrass cabinet colour while tying the island in with the handless charcoal colour cabinets on the back wall. With limited above bench wall space, the majority of storage is accommodated in 50-65kg capacity soft closing drawers under deep benchtops maximising the storage potential of the area. The 1meter wide appliance cabinet has ample storage for small appliances in tall deep drawers under bench height while a pair of pocket doors above bench level open to reveal bench space for a toaster and coffee machine with a microwave space and shelving above. This kitchen design earned our designer Anne Ellard, a spot in the final of KBDI’s 2017 Designer Awards. Award winners will be announced at a Gala event in Adelaide later this year. Now in its ninth year, the KBDi Designer Awards is a well-established and highly regarded national event on the Australian design calendar. The program recognises the professionalism and talent of Australian kitchen and bathroom designers. This stunning modern extension in Harrogate incorporates an existing Victorian brick wall, giving a warehouse feel to this open plan kitchen with a dining and living area. The exposed brick wall adds texture and sits harmoniously with the simple rectangular glass table lantern. Dark cabinets painted in Basalt by Little Green, makes the units feel industrial, the vintage scrub top table painted in the same colour as the units add character. The kitchens simple brass handles are practical yet elegant, enhancing the warehouse-style and almost adds a pinch of glamour. The bank of wall cupboards house a larder, tall fridge and ends with a countertop pantry cupboard with folding doors plus more cupboard space above. The lower runs have a mix of drawers and cupboard which also house an integrated dishwasher and bin. White Silestone worktops lift the look and the traditional natural oak parquet flooring give texture and warmth to the room, which leads through to a family sitting room. Large oak glass doors look towards beautifully manicured gardens and bring the outdoors indoors. Christopher designed the kitchen with our client Francesca to achieve a great space for family life and entertaining.

Overview Loft addition, ground floor extension and remodelling. The Brief To enhance and extend the family home with a hi-spec interior and unique design throughout. Our Solution We decided to create a crisp space fitting in a wonderful kitchen by Roundhouse and focus on several key design features to realise an award-worthy scheme. This project was longlisted for the New London Architecture Awards for 2017 and was part of an exhibition at The Building Centre on Store Street, London. As is often the case we have planning considerations that drove the shape and setting out, we maximised the space added, specifically exhibited some of the otherwise hidden structure and added in acres of neat, concealed storage from front to back. The clients’ taste and sense of modern style have led to an amazing interior with concrete topped kitchen, bespoke storage, a central fireplace and a flexible kitchen/dining/snug area off the courtyard garden. We are so proud of this scheme.

Cocina abierta para mejorar el movimeinto entre las zonas de día y mantener la comunicación mientas que se está trabajando en la cocina, dotándola tambien de acceso directo a la terraza. El frigorífico y el resto de los electrodomésticos están integrados en los muebles para dar mayor limpieza al diseño. La iluminación juega un papel muy importante en nuestros diseños, en esta cocina hay luz superior para evitar sombras durante el trabajo, luz cálida en la península y luz ambiente en el suelo para dar claridad sin que sea molesta cuando no se utiliza.

The copper sliding doors of the pantry open to reveal the bar. Featuring steel shelves and antique mirror to back. A floating steel shelf is welded above the benchtop to create a division from the kitchen and and area for guests to lean and have a drink. Black sink and tap tie into the look seamlessly.
