This striking space blends modern, classic and industrial touches to create an eclectic and homely feel. The cabinets are a mixture of flat and panelled doors in grey tones, whilst the mobile island is in contrasting graphite and oak. There is a lot of flexible storage in the space with a multitude of drawers replacing wall cabinets, and all areas are clearly separated in to zones- including a dedicated space for storing all food, fresh, frozen and ambient. The home owner was not afraid to take risks, and the overall look is contemporary but timeless with a touch of fun thrown in!

Originally a two-story piano bar, this space was carefully converted by its new owner into an amazing urban loft. The industrial style kitchen design sits at the center of the space, as part of an open plan kitchen/dining/living area. Our designer, Julie Johnson, worked with the owner to create a comfortable living area paired with edgy industrial features, such as the exposed brick, wood beams, and ducting. Personal touches give the room its unique personality, including an original bar refrigerator and guitar collection hanging in the hallway. The revitalized kitchen incorporated a 36" wide gas cooktop, along with a Native Trails copper farmhouse sink. Flat panel Bellmont Cabinetry kitchen cabinets naturally complement the exposed brick, and pair beautifully with the MSI glass mosaic backsplash, MSI perimeter countertop, and Cambria island countertop. Every detail enhances this kitchen design, including the seeded glass cabinet doors, and undercabinet and undercounter lighting.

Originally a church and community centre, this Northside residence has been lovingly renovated by an enthusiastic young couple into a unique family home. The design brief for this kitchen design was to create a larger than life industrial style kitchen that would not look lost in the enormous 8.3meter wide “assembly hall” area of this unassuming 1950’s suburban home. The inclusion of a large island that was proportionate to the space was a must have for the family. The collation of different materials, textures and design features in this kitchen blend to create a functional, family-friendly, industrial style kitchen design that feels warm and inviting and entirely at home in its surroundings. The clients desire for dark charcoal colour cabinetry is softened with the use of the ‘Bluegrass’ colour cabinets under the rough finish solid wood island bench. The sleek black handles on the island contrast the Bluegrass cabinet colour while tying the island in with the handless charcoal colour cabinets on the back wall. With limited above bench wall space, the majority of storage is accommodated in 50-65kg capacity soft closing drawers under deep benchtops maximising the storage potential of the area. The 1meter wide appliance cabinet has ample storage for small appliances in tall deep drawers under bench height while a pair of pocket doors above bench level open to reveal bench space for a toaster and coffee machine with a microwave space and shelving above. This kitchen design earned our designer Anne Ellard, a spot in the final of KBDI’s 2017 Designer Awards. Award winners will be announced at a Gala event in Adelaide later this year. Now in its ninth year, the KBDi Designer Awards is a well-established and highly regarded national event on the Australian design calendar. The program recognises the professionalism and talent of Australian kitchen and bathroom designers. What the clients said: ” The end result of our experience with Anne and Kitchens by Kathie is a space that people walk into and everyone says “Wow!”. As well as being great to look at, it’s a pleasure to use, the space has both great form and function. Anne was extremely responsive to any issues or concerns that cropped up during the design/build process which made the whole process much smoother and enjoyable. The Kitchen re-design is built around work stations. Clean up, cooking, and preparing meals all work in zones. The island is truly an "island" in that it floats between the living room and the work zones. The deep drawers of the island make it an ideal prep zone where the kids can all be a part, and the table seating grows from the cook zone for easy meal transfer. Every day at the lake is easy and this kitchen layout keeps everyone in the family involved.

The kitchen in this 1950’s home needed a complete overhaul. It was dark, outdated and inefficient. The homeowners wanted to give the space a modern feel without losing the 50’s vibe that is consistent throughout the rest of the home. The homeowner’s needs included: - Working within a fixed space, though reconfiguring or moving walls was okay - Incorporating work space for two chefs - Creating a mudroom - Maintaining the existing laundry chute - A concealed trash receptacle The new kitchen makes use of every inch of space. To maximize counter and cabinet space, we closed in a second exit door and removed a wall between the kitchen and family room. This allowed us to create two L shaped workspaces and an eat-in bar space. A new mudroom entrance was gained by capturing space from an existing closet next to the main exit door. The industrial lighting fixtures and wrought iron hardware bring a modern touch to this retro space. Inset doors on cabinets and beadboard details replicate details found throughout the rest of this 50’s era house.

Tucked away in a lovely little side street in Greenwich, this London townhouse is beautiful and elegant, and so unassuming from the exterior! When the homeowners purchased the property in 2016, it was divided into three separate flats and in desperate need of some TLC! Two years on, stepping through the immaculately painted charcoal front door was an absolute pleasure, and it is certainly one of those houses that make you say 'WOW!'. Burlanes were commissioned to design, handmake and install an industrial style kitchen, with all the benefits of contemporary living.
