Warm and inviting this new construction home, by New Orleans Architect Al Jones, and interior design by Bradshaw Designs, lives as if it's been there for decades. Charming details provide a rich patina. The old Chicago brick walls, the white slurried brick walls, old ceiling beams, and deep green paint colors, all add up to a house filled with comfort and charm for this dear family. The client wanted to create a traditional rustic design with clean lines and a feminine edge. She works from her home office, so she needed it to be functional and organized with elegant and timeless lines. In the kitchen, we removed the peninsula that separated it for the breakfast room and kitchen, to create better flow and unity throughout the space.

The remodeled space features a custom Murphy bed that blends with the built-in cabinetry and window seats when not in use. Brass lighting and hardware add warmth and "pop" against the gray. Photo Credit - David Bader

This innovative fitted furniture solution converts a previously unused area under the staircase and transforms it into a stylish home study area with plenty of storage. Each element of the bespoke, handcrafted understairs office has been carefully considered to not only maximise space but work as efficiently as possible. Everything is in easy reach yet stored away neatly and conveniently to create a sophisticated home office area.

Inspiration for a handsome home study. Rice University inspired blue hue, a natural walnut Lawson Fenning desk, and beautiful built-ins to welcome the families book collection.

Many people can’t see beyond the current aesthetics when looking to buy a house, but this innovative couple recognized the good bones of their mid-century style home in Golden’s Applewood neighborhood and were determined to make the necessary updates to create the perfect space for their family. In order to turn this older residence into a modern home that would meet the family’s current lifestyle, we replaced all the original windows with new, wood-clad black windows. The design of window is a nod to the home’s mid-century roots with modern efficiency and a polished appearance. We also wanted the interior of the home to feel connected to the awe-inspiring outside, so we opened up the main living area with a vaulted ceiling. To add a contemporary but sleek look to the fireplace, we crafted the mantle out of cold rolled steel. The texture of the cold rolled steel conveys a natural aesthetic and pairs nicely with the walnut mantle we built to cap the steel, uniting the design in the kitchen and the built-in entryway. Everyone at Factor developed rich relationships with this beautiful family while collaborating through the design and build of their freshly renovated, contemporary home.
