2017-2018 Kitchen Design Contest Southwest Winner. This kitchen functions as a gathering and homework area for the children, while ample space allows the entire family to get together and cook dinner. The beautiful floor plan opens to the great room and vast outdoor patio, and the material selections blend through the entirety of the home.

The island was designed to feel like furniture in this compact, narrow space. 2 stools for enjoying a coffee while looking out the sink window. Upper cabinets and wall paint were done in a creamy white paint to lighten the space. Rustic wood cabinets create texture and a connection to nature. Craftsman hardware and a black hood modernize this bungalow while natural colored ceramics like the backsplash tile and pendant lights bring the boho vibe. Adornments are all plants in this Biophilic design.

We designed an addition to the house to include the new kitchen, expanded mudroom and relocated laundry room. The kitchen features an abundance of countertop and island space, island seating, a farmhouse sink, custom walnut cabinetry and floating shelves, a breakfast nook with built-in bench seating and porcelain tile flooring.

For this 130-year-old farmhouse renovation, it was important to incorporate the original features of the home while also bringing a new, modern touch. We kept the original limestone walls. We created a brand new, more European styled kitchen with plywood cabinets and a minimalist hood vent. The entryway was transformed to be more modern and inviting.

The oak cabinets in this kitchen were in excellent shape. We painted the soffit a complimentary shade to give the impression that they are taller. The marble-look quartz countertops with mini white subway tile keep the room bright and bold. The LVT wide plank flooring was laid over the existing ceramic tile for an updated farmhouse look.

We planned a thoughtful redesign of this beautiful home while retaining many of the existing features. We wanted this house to feel the immediacy of its environment. So we carried the exterior front entry style into the interiors, too, as a way to bring the beautiful outdoors in. In addition, we added patios to all the bedrooms to make them feel much bigger. Luckily for us, our temperate California climate makes it possible for the patios to be used consistently throughout the year. The original kitchen design did not have exposed beams, but we decided to replicate the motif of the 30" living room beams in the kitchen as well, making it one of our favorite details of the house. To make the kitchen more functional, we added a second island allowing us to separate kitchen tasks. The sink island works as a food prep area, and the bar island is for mail, crafts, and quick snacks. We designed the primary bedroom as a relaxation sanctuary – something we highly recommend to all parents. It features some of our favorite things: a cognac leather reading chair next to a fireplace, Scottish plaid fabrics, a vegetable dye rug, art from our favorite cities, and goofy portraits of the kids. --- Project designed by Courtney Thomas Design in La Cañada. Heritage Cherry Coffee/Cat Station. We took advantage of an offset wall to create a functional coffee nook. An open bottom base cabinet with arched valance provide the perfect area to feed Kitty Cat

Our showcase kitchen was envisioned to be a modern farmhouse dream. To encompass the trend we used period lighting, a combination of cream, black and natural wood tones. Authentic natural maple hardwood flooring. Partially stained wood and painted cream custom cabinets for contrast and definition. The spacious kitchen island made of Vicostone Carrara honed Quartz is attached to the dining table. White fireclay farmhouse sink. Premium JennAir appliances. Finished with cream faux leather dining chairs and farmhouse decor.
