This kitchen is a part of a new construction of a home on a horse farm. The homeowner is a horse enthusiast and wanted the new home to look and feel like a modern farm house. Much of the wood features are meant to recall the look of a barn, even the wood used on the staircase is reclaimed wood used from the original barn that was on the property. The kitchen uses Scavolini cabinetry and is the focal point of life at the farm house. They are a grey oak veneer with a super glossy lacquer clear coat, slab door with a channel instead of handles for a modern look. A long island stretches the expanse of the room providing plentiful seating and counter space for hosting. An appliance garage hides the coffee maker and other mini appliances that usually living on the counter top. A stainless steel refrigerator balances on the other side. The kitchen is situated in the great room with the living area featuring a gas fireplace and dining table (not shown). With the goal of creating larger, brighter, and more open spaces within the footprint of an existing house, BiglarKinyan reimagined the flow and proportions of existing rooms with in this house. In this kitchen space, return walls of an original U shaped kitchen were eliminated to create a long and efficient linear kitchen with island. Rear windows facing a ravine were enlarged to invite more light and views indoors. Space was borrowed from an adjacent dining and living room, which was combined and reproportioned to create a kitchen pantry and bar, larger dining room and a piano lounge.

The kitchen and breakfast area are kept simple and modern, featuring glossy flat panel cabinets, modern appliances and finishes, as well as warm woods. The dining area was also given a modern feel, but we incorporated strong bursts of red-orange accents. The organic wooden table, modern dining chairs, and artisan lighting all come together to create an interesting and picturesque interior. Project Location: The Hamptons. The cooking area contains an induction cooktop, double ovens, and drawer microwave. The custom stainless hood proves that form and function can exist together. The hang glazed tiles are accentuated by the colored glass tiles.
