This is a quintessential Colorado home. Massive raw steel beams are juxtaposed with refined fumed larch cabinetry, heavy lashed timber is foiled by the lightness of window walls. Monolithic stone walls lay perpendicular to a curved ridge, organizing the home as they converge in the protected entry courtyard. From here, the walls radiate outwards, both dividing and capturing spacious interior volumes and distinct views to the forest, the meadow, and Rocky Mountain peaks. This is the informal den or family room of the home. Slipcovers were used on the lighter colored items to keep everything washable and easy to maintain. Coffee tables were replaced with two oversized tufted ottomans in dark gray which sit on a custom made beige and cream zebra pattern rug. The lilac and white wallpaper was carried to this room from the adjacent kitchen. Dramatic linen window treatments were hung on oversized black wood rods, giving the room height and importance.

Les propriétaires ont hérité de cette maison de campagne datant de l'époque de leurs grands parents et inhabitée depuis de nombreuses années. Outre la dimension affective du lieu, il était difficile pour eux de se projeter à y vivre puisqu'ils n'avaient aucune idée des modifications à réaliser pour améliorer les espaces et s'approprier cette maison. La conception s'est faite en douceur et à été très progressive sur de longs mois afin que chacun se projette dans son nouveau chez soi. Je me suis sentie très investie dans cette mission et j'ai beaucoup aimé réfléchir à l'harmonie globale entre les différentes pièces et fonctions puisqu'ils avaient à coeur que leur maison soit aussi idéale pour leurs deux enfants. Caractéristiques de la décoration : inspirations slow life dans le salon et la salle de bain. Décor végétal et fresques personnalisées à l'aide de papier peint panoramiques les dominotiers et photowall. Tapisseries illustrées uniques. A partir de matériaux sobres au sol (carrelage gris clair effet béton ciré et parquet massif en bois doré) l'enjeu à été d'apporter un univers à chaque pièce à l'aide de couleurs ou de revêtement muraux plus marqués : Vert / Verte / Tons pierre / Parement / Bois / Jaune / Terracotta / Bleu / Turquoise / Gris / Noir ... Il y a en a pour tout les gouts dans cette maison !

Brief: Create a room that wasn’t just a ‘man-cave’ but one that worked for all the family, and friends, too. It had to be a room that is ‘all things to all people’, so had to be designed to allow multiple activities to happen at the same time in the same space. The lighting, sound, and vision had to work on their own, and together.

The owners requested a Private Resort that catered to their love for entertaining friends and family, a place where 2 people would feel just as comfortable as 42. Located on the western edge of a Wisconsin lake, the site provides a range of natural ecosystems from forest to prairie to water, allowing the building to have a more complex relationship with the lake - not merely creating large unencumbered views in that direction. The gently sloping site to the lake is atypical in many ways to most lakeside lots - as its main trajectory is not directly to the lake views - allowing for focus to be pushed in other directions such as a courtyard and into a nearby forest. The biggest challenge was accommodating the large scale gathering spaces, while not overwhelming the natural setting with a single massive structure. Our solution was found in breaking down the scale of the project into digestible pieces and organizing them in a Camp-like collection of elements: - Main Lodge: Providing the proper entry to the Camp and a Mess Hall - Bunk House: A communal sleeping area and social space. - Party Barn: An entertainment facility that opens directly on to a swimming pool & outdoor room. - Guest Cottages: A series of smaller guest quarters. - Private Quarters: The owners private space that directly links to the Main Lodge. These elements are joined by a series green roof connectors, that merge with the landscape and allow the out buildings to retain their own identity. This Camp feel was further magnified through the materiality - specifically the use of Doug Fir, creating a modern Northwoods setting that is warm and inviting. The use of local limestone and poured concrete walls ground the buildings to the sloping site and serve as a cradle for the wood volumes that rest gently on them. The connections between these materials provided an opportunity to add a delicate reading to the spaces and re-enforce the camp aesthetic. The oscillation between large communal spaces and private, intimate zones is explored on the interior and in the outdoor rooms. From the large courtyard to the private balcony - accommodating a variety of opportunities to engage the landscape was at the heart of the concept. A custom cocktail-ottoman is the centerpiece of this intimate conversation area in the open plan family room. Upholstered in leather and trimmed with nail heads, it brings a hint of cattle country to this sophisticated setting. But there are so many details that make this space special. Notice the fringed skirts and nailheads on the arm chairs and their lumbar pillows bordered in pom pons. Plus, the custom rug is a subtle reference to a spotted animal skin. Photo by Brian Gassel

Partition to entry was removed for an open floor plan. Bar length was extended. 2 support beams concealed by being built into the design plan. Theatre Room entry was relocated to opposite side of room to maximize seating. Gym entry area was opened up to provide better flow and maximize floor plan. Bathroom was updated as well to complement other areas.

This penthouse in an industrial warehouse pairs old and new for versatility, function, and beauty. Sitting room with teal blue couch, modern coffee table, yellow armchair and custom stools.

This amazing area combines a huge number of different materials to create on expansive and cohesive space... Hardwood, Glass, Limestone, Marble, Stainless Steel, Copper, Wallpaper, Concrete, and more. One whole wall features a custom fifteen foot glass fireplace that is surrounded by faux limestone.

To create a one-of-a-kind fireplace in the open plan family room, I chose a mosaic border of glass and travertine tiles surrounded by a wider border of vein-cut, travertine. I finished the interior with bricks laid in a herringbone pattern. Photo by Brian Gassel
