Above a newly constructed triple garage, we created a multifunctional space for a family that likes to entertain, but also spend time together watching movies, sports and playing pool. Having worked with our clients before on a previous project, they gave us free rein to create something they couldn’t have thought of themselves. We planned the space to feel as open as possible, whilst still having individual areas with their own identity and purpose. As this space was going to be predominantly used for entertaining in the evening or for movie watching, we made the room dark and enveloping using Farrow and Ball Studio Green in dead flat finish, wonderful for absorbing light. We then set about creating a lighting plan that offers multiple options for both ambience and practicality, so no matter what the occasion there was a lighting setting to suit. The bar, banquette seat and sofa were all bespoke, specifically designed for this space, which allowed us to have the exact size and cover we wanted. We also designed a restroom and shower room, so that in the future should this space become a guest suite, it already has everything you need. ​ Given that this space was completed just before Christmas, we feel sure it would have been thoroughly enjoyed for entertaining.

Ce projet de plus de 150 m2 est né par l'unification de deux appartements afin d'accueillir une grande famille. Le défi est alors de concevoir un lieu confortable pour les grands et les petits, un lieu de convivialité pour tous, en somme un vrai foyer chaleureux au cœur d'un des plus anciens quartiers de la ville. Le volume sous la charpente est généreusement exploité pour réaliser un espace ouvert et modulable, la zone jour. Elle est composée de trois espaces distincts tout en étant liés les uns aux autres par une grande verrière structurante réalisée en chêne. Le séjour est le lieu où se retrouve la famille, où elle accueille, en lien avec la cuisine pour la préparation des repas, mais aussi avec la salle d’étude pour surveiller les devoirs des quatre petits écoliers. L'idée était de transformer ce studio de centre ville en un lieu atypique, avec une thématique spécifique pour créer une émotion. Le budget était très serré mais des pièces fortes en déco on suffit à métamorphoser l'endroit.

Meine Kunden wünschten sich ein Gästezimmer. Das würde zwar nur wenig genutzt werden, aber der Raum über der Garage war nun einmal fällig. Da wir im Wohnzimmer keinen Kamin unterbringen konnten, habe ich aus diesem ungeliebtem Appendix ein "Winterwohnzimmer" gemacht, den hier war ein Schornstein gar kein Problem, Zwei neue Dachflächenfenster sorgen für Helligkeit und die beiden Durchbrüche zum Flur sorgen dafür, dass dieser auch etwas von der neuen Lichtquelle profitiert und das zwei Wohnzimmer nicht mehr nur ein Anhängsel ist. Gäste kommen jetzt häufiger als geplant - aus dem Sofa läßt sich in wenigen Minuten ein sehr komfortables Bett machen.

This room as an unused dining room. This couple loves to entertain so we designed the room to be dramatic to look at, and allow for movable seating, and of course, a very sexy functional custom bar.
