Back view of beach house features new windows, exterior paint, balcony w/cable railing; the balcony also serves as the roof for the aluminum screen room below that was built on the new Azek decks. On the left side of the house a custom made awning was built using cedar and metal roofing to provide shelter to the side entrance and also reduces the heat that is transferred from being exposed to sun. An exterior shower was installed to the right of the side entrance door. (there is a close up photo posted of the shower)

Our client fell in love with the original 80s style of this house. However, no part of it had been updated since it was built in 1981. Both the style and structure of the home needed to be drastically updated to turn this house into our client’s dream modern home. We are also excited to announce that this renovation has transformed this 80s house into a multiple award-winning home, including a major award for Renovator of the Year from the Vancouver Island Building Excellence Awards. The original layout for this home was certainly unique. In addition, there was wall-to-wall carpeting (even in the bathroom!) and a poorly maintained exterior.
There were several goals for the Modern Revival home. A new covered parking area, a more appropriate front entry, and a revised layout were all necessary. Therefore, it needed to have square footage added on as well as a complete interior renovation. One of the client’s key goals was to revive the modern 80s style that she grew up loving. Alfresco Living Design and A. Willie Design worked with Made to Last to help the client find creative solutions to their goals.

One of the goals of this project was to provide a durable exterior envelope with rainscreen siding. A Nana Wall door opens up the interior space directly to the deck. Porcelain pavers are set on pedestals and waterproof membrane. A solid metal railing encompasses the deck perimeter. View is to the West. Photo by Mike Jensen.

This project was the remodelling of the existing rather ugly 1970s wire-cut brick house. The site though was spectacular, facing Pittwater north of Sydney. We wanted to giver the owner a house that would provide a contemporary facade, light and fresh on the ground level and strong and bold above. The entrance hall leads the visitor directly through to the water views beyond.

This home has a masonry structure with impact rated clad wood windows and a clay tile roof. It sits on a small beachfront lot. The exterior stone is fossilized coral. The driveway is random fossilized coral with irrigated grass placed between the stones. The exterior is in a fairly traditional Mediterranean style but the interior is more modern and eclectic. his business located in a commercial park in North East Denver needed to replace aging composite wood siding from the 1970s. Colorado Siding Repair vertically installed Artisan primed fiber cement ship lap from the James Hardie Asypre Collection. When we removed the siding we found that the underlayment was completely rotting and needed to replaced as well. This is a perfect example of what could happen when we remove and replace siding– we find rotting OSB and framing! Check out the pictures!
The Artisan nickel gap shiplap from James Hardie’s Asypre Collection provides an attractive stream-lined style perfect for this commercial property. Colorado Siding Repair removed the rotting underlayment and installed new OSB and framing. Then further protecting the building from future moisture damage by wrapping the structure with HardieWrap, like we do on every siding project. Once the Artisan shiplap was installed vertically, we painted the siding and trim with Sherwin-Williams Duration paint in Iron Ore. We also painted the hand rails to match, free of charge, to complete the look of the commercial building in North East Denver. What do you think of James Hardie’s Aspyre Collection? We think it provides a beautiful, modern profile to this once drab building.

We have designed an underground garage addition to this traditional San Francisco home as well as a total renovation to all the interior spaces. William Pell was the General Contractor and FTF Engineering designed a seismic upgrade for all the floor levels.
PAUL CREMOUX studio
A visual artist and his fiancée’s house and studio were designed with various themes in mind, such as the physical context, client needs, security, and a limited budget.
Six options were analyzed during the schematic design stage to control the wind from the northeast, sunlight, light quality, cost, energy, and specific operating expenses. By using design performance tools and technologies such as Fluid Dynamics, Energy Consumption Analysis, Material Life Cycle Assessment, and Climate Analysis, sustainable strategies were identified. The building is self-sufficient and will provide the site with an aquifer recharge that does not currently exist.
The main masses are distributed around a courtyard, creating a moderately open construction towards the interior and closed to the outside. The courtyard contains a Huizache tree, surrounded by a water mirror that refreshes and forms a central part of the courtyard.
The house comprises three main volumes, each oriented at different angles to highlight different views for each area. The patio is the primary circulation stratagem, providing a refuge from the wind, a connection to the sky, and a night sky observatory. We aim to establish a deep relationship with the site by including the open space of the patio.
