Artisan Remodeling & Design
A fun full house remodel of a home originally built in 1946. We opted for a crisp, black and white exterior to flow with the modern, minimalistic vibe on the interior.

The Fairfield Courtyard House is a combination of robust, timeless finishes, with a strong focus on craftmanship. The exterior is a mixture of bush hammered concrete and off form cement, with steel doors and windows. The interior ceiling and skylight reveals are polished plaster, and the walls and floors are lined with sustainably sourced hardwood. Resulting in an warm and enduring home.

With modern finishes and artistical touches, she is sure far from an ordinary build you see every day. This new home has everything a 2-bed house can ask for and more: stylish backsplashes, a walk-in kitchen pantry, high grade appliances, custom blinds, durable wood plank laminate flooring, concreted tall crawl space, energy-certification, custom-shelves walk-in closet, open-concept, 2-bath, and more!

A small bunk house on the property was remodeled during the new construction. A bedroom was removed to allow for a new front porch. The same Hale Navy, White Dove and Showstopper Red were used on this structure as well.

The classic MCM fin details on the side yard patio had disappeared through the years and were discovered during the historic renovation process via archival photographs and renderings. They were meticulously detailed and implemented by the direction of the architect, and the character they add to the home is indisputable. While not structural, they do add both a unique design detail and shade element to the patio and help to filter the light into the home's interior. The wood cladding on the exterior of the home had been painted over through the years and was restored back to its original, natural state. Classic exterior furnishings mixed with some modern day currents help to make this a home both for entertaining or just relaxing with family.

The client came to us to assist with transforming their small family cabin into a year-round residence that would continue the family legacy. The home was originally built by our client’s grandfather so keeping much of the existing interior woodwork and stone masonry fireplace was a must. They did not want to lose the rustic look and the warmth of the pine paneling. The view of Lake Michigan was also to be maintained. It was important to keep the home nestled within its surroundings.
There was a need to update the kitchen, add a laundry & mud room, install insulation, add a heating & cooling system, provide additional bedrooms and more bathrooms. The addition to the home needed to look intentional and provide plenty of room for the entire family to be together. Low maintenance exterior finish materials were used for the siding and trims as well as natural field stones at the base to match the original cabin’s charm.
