Project by Studio H:T. Principal Brad Tomecek now with Tomecek Studio Architecture. Constructed using a sophisticated German prefabrication system, this unique 40 feet wide property boasts expansive front range views. The humble transparent entry elevation is based on a series of north-south solid walls that are connected with storefront glass. This experience unfolds moving through the residence until the occupant is hovering on a deck three stories above the rear yard – ‘floating’ in the trees. Timothy J Park Our firm was responsible for both the interiors and the architecture on this hillside home. The challenge was to design a "timeless" contemporary home that hugged the two acre hillside lot. One request was to enter the main floor with no exterior steps from the garage or driveway, something that is appreciated when there is three feet of snow! The solution for the entry was to create a twenty foot bridge from the exterior gate to the front door, this allowed the house to drop down the slope and created a very exciting entry courtyard. The interior has very simple lines and plays up the floor to ceiling windows with the ceiling level extending outside to create the deep overhang for the exterior. While our firm is primarily an interior design firm we are occasionally asked to create architectural plans. We prefer to work along with the architect on a project to create that "dream team" which results in the most successful projects.

The objective was to create a warm neutral space to later customize to a specific colour palate/preference of the end user for this new construction home being built to sell. A high-end contemporary feel was requested to attract buyers in the area. An impressive kitchen that exuded high class and made an impact on guests as they entered the home, without being overbearing. The space offers an appealing open floorplan conducive to entertaining with indoor-outdoor flow. Due to the spec nature of this house, the home had to remain appealing to the builder, while keeping a broad audience of potential buyers in mind. The challenge lay in creating a unique look, with visually interesting materials and finishes, while not being so unique that potential owners couldn’t envision making it their own. The focus on key elements elevates the look, while other features blend and offer support to these striking components. As the home was built for sale, profitability was important; materials were sourced at best value, while retaining high-end appeal. Adaptations to the home’s original design plan improve flow and usability within the kitchen-greatroom. The client desired a rich dark finish. The chosen colours tie the kitchen to the rest of the home (creating unity as combination, colours and materials, is repeated throughout). Photos- Paul Grdina

This lakefront home is located on a small plateau in Forest Beach Estates, high above the lake and beach. The design of the home resulted from the Department of Environmental Qualities Critical Dunes Build-able area requirement. The resulting footprint created a flowing curved surface in plan and a curving perimeter that was covered by a curved roof. The views are spectacular from the three viewing levels of this home and allow the plan to provide multiple point panoramic vistas wherever you are in the spaces. We designed this home to be like a land ship with its ports of call the four seasons. Immersed in the waves and the ever changing surrounding landscape of Forest Beach, the beauty and qualities of the outdoor life can quickly transform your view of life. Photo Credit: Jim Yochum
