Dressed with undulating negra cantera stone, the massing elements of “Outside In” bring an artistic stature to the project’s design hierarchy. This home boasts a first (never seen before feature) — a re-entrant pocketing door which unveils virtually the entire home’s living space to the exterior pool and view terrace. A timeless chocolate and white palette makes this home both elegant and refined. Oriented south, the spectacular interior natural light illuminates what promises to become another timeless piece of architecture for the Paradise Valley landscape. Here I was very focused on allowing the Architecture to take center stage. I kept the entry hall furnishings to a minimum. The art, the architecture, the views, the finishes,... it was all exquisite. I didn’t want the furniture to upstage any of it. I used very high quality pieces that were extremely refined yet a bit rustic. A nice juxtaposition....

This backlit panel truly sets the stage for the rest of the interiors throughout this modern home. The client’s goal was to create a sense of arrival and have an element of surprise upon guests’ arrival. Even when the front door is closed, the blue glow of the lights gives visitors a glimpse that there is something out of the ordinary just behind the obscured glass in the door. Upon entry, the rift cut oak gives off a sense of warmth and depth while the cool blue glass softly glows through each opening in the panel. The panels are cleated to the wall to allow them to be taken down in the event a bulb burns out, but the designer used LED lights to ensure that might not be for years to come. The piece is not only a wall treatment but also artwork and even a light fixture combined!
