This kitchen in a 1911 Craftsman home has taken on a new life full of color and personality. Inspired by the client’s colorful taste and the homes of her family in The Philippines, we leaned into the wild for this design. The first thing the client told us is that she wanted terra cotta floors and green countertops. Beyond this direction, she wanted a place for the refrigerator in the kitchen since it was originally in the breakfast nook. She also wanted a place for waste receptacles, to be able to reach all the shelves in her cabinetry, and a special place to play Mahjong with friends and family. The home presented some challenges in that the stairs go directly over the space where we wanted to move the refrigerator. The client also wanted us to retain the built-ins in the dining room that are on the opposite side of the range wall, as well as the breakfast nook built ins. The solution to these problems were clear to us, and we quickly got to work. We lowered the cabinetry in the refrigerator area to accommodate the stairs above, as well as closing off the unnecessary door from the kitchen to the stairs leading to the second floor. We utilized a recycled body porcelain floor tile that looks like terra cotta to achieve the desired look, but it is much easier to upkeep than traditional terra cotta. In the breakfast nook we used bold jungle themed wallpaper to create a special place that feels connected, but still separate, from the kitchen for the client to play Mahjong in or enjoy a cup of coffee. Finally, we utilized stair pullouts by all the upper cabinets that extend to the ceiling to ensure that the client can reach every shelf.

"A Kitchen for Architects" by Jamee Parish Architects, LLC. This project is within an old 1928 home. The kitchen was expanded and a small addition was added to provide a mudroom and powder room. It was important the the existing character in this home be complimented and mimicked in the new spaces.

Designed by Phil Rudick, Architect This double island kitchen is a mix of stained cherry cabinets with mutely painted distressed island cabinets made by Crystal. Philip Rudick, Architect of Urban Kitchens and Baths, Austin, Texas redesigned the planned walk in pantry with a sunlight filled room housing food storage, wine bar and computer docking station.The island cabinets feature glass front drawers, post legs, additional refrigeration and sink. The kitchen sports a stem and speed oven, Built in refrigerator, freezer, wine cooler, ice makerand warming drawer.

A person’s home is the place where their personality can flourish. In this client’s case, it was their love for their native homeland of Kenya, Africa. One of the main challenges with these space was to remain within the client’s budget. It was important to give this home lots of character, so hiring a faux finish artist to hand-paint the walls in an African inspired pattern for powder room to emphasizing their existing pieces was the perfect solution to staying within their budget needs. Each room was carefully planned to showcase their African heritage in each aspect of the home. The main features included deep wood tones paired with light walls, and dark finishes. A hint of gold was used throughout the house, to complement the spaces and giving the space a bit of a softer feel.

Peg and Randy had a wonderful experience working with APlus and were impressed with the incredible workmanship that went into the remodel. They started their journey looking at their options with stock cabinets and came to realize it wasn’t the best choice for them. A friend that was very happy with the remodel being completed at her home by APlus recommended they call to set up an appointment to meet with a designer. They met with Alex and loved his design ideas so they decided to hire APlus to remodel their kitchen. Peg and Randy were very pleased with the cost and were very surprised to find that a custom kitchen was well within their budget. When guest ask them how they came up with the design concept of the kitchen they praise Alex for coming up with such a gorgeous design. Many changes were made in the kitchen such as adding wonderful high end appliances and hiding the microwave from view. Prior to remodeling their kitchen they had such limited storage space in the kitchen that they resorted to using their garage to store items. This Lake Forest couple now has an amazing amount of hidden storage space with plenty of new space to spare. The open concept took a cramped living room, dining room, & kitchen and made it one comfortable great room. Galley style counters were extended into dining area creating an endless counter for serving. A peninsula bar, with live edge granite, & adjacent moveable dining table creates room for 10 guests to share a meal.

Kitchen: The vinyl flooring was replaced with a 1'x2' slip resistant porcelain tile. The original oak cabinet boxes were kept. All drawer slides were replaced with 'Soft Close' ball bearing slides and new stainless pulls. Formica counter tops were replaced with 'Mocha' engineered Quartz. All appliances were replaced: Decor gas cook top with KitchenAid downdraft system, Combination Viking convection oven and Microwave, and a GE Profile dishwasher. A Kraus stainless steel, two bowl undermout sink with a Grohe fauset were installed. The home owner had fourty year old hand painted tiles that she wanted incorporated into the backsplash design. Cobalt blue subway tiles and 1"x 3" Opaleen color glass tiles were used to complete the look. New wall paper and paint on the walls. The antique hutch was faux finished with a floral design.
