For this 1928 bungalow in the Historic Houston Heights we remodeled the home to give a sense of order to the small home. The spaces that existed were choppy and doors everywhere. In a small space doors can really eat into your living area. We took our cues for style from our contemporary loving clients and their Craftsman bungalow. Our remodel plans focused on the kitchen and den area. There’s a formal living and then an additional living area off the back of the kitchen. We brought purpose to the back den by creating built-ins centered around the windows for their book collection. The window seats and the moveable chairs are seating for the many parties our client’s like to throw. The original kitchen had multiple entries. We closed off a door to the master bedroom to move the refrigerator. That enabled us to open the wall to the front of the house creating a sense of a much larger space while also providing a great flow for entertaining. To reflect our client’s contemporary leaning style we kept the materials white and simple in a way that fits with the house style but doesn’t feel fussy.

This Paradise Valley stunner was a down-to-the-studs renovation. The owner, a successful business woman and owner of Bungalow Scottsdale -- a fabulous furnishings store, had a very clear vision. DW's mission was to re-imagine the 1970's solid block home into a modern and open place for a family of three. The house initially was very compartmentalized including lots of small rooms and too many doors to count. With a mantra of simplify, simplify, simplify, Architect CP Drewett began to look for the hidden order to craft a space that lived well. This residence is a Moroccan world of white topped with classic Morrish patterning and finished with the owner's fabulous taste. The kitchen was established as the home's center to facilitate the owner's heart and swagger for entertaining. The public spaces were reimagined with a focus on hospitality. Practicing great restraint with the architecture set the stage for the owner to showcase objects in space. Her fantastic collection includes a glass-top faux elephant tusk table from the set of the infamous 80's television series, Dallas. It was a joy to create, collaborate, and now celebrate this amazing home. Project Details: Architecture: C.P. A modern and classic kitchen design with hints of industrial was created for this young family. Must-have's for the clients included: easily accessible storage, two sink workstations, and featuring their adored Santa Monica marble and Sierra Black soapstone. This once U-shaped kitchen with two peninsula's was opened up with two large working islands which optimize function and flow through the space. The prep sink island is topped with Sierra Black soapstone and provides ample space for food prep adjacent to the Wolf gas range. The Santa Monica marble became the focal point of this gorgeous kitchen. A three-sided mitered waterfall wrap envelopes the second island which houses the beverage refrigerator. An eclectic kitchen that packs a punch, of color! This space is full of character and the tile proves it. The tile was the inspiration for the kitchen remodel. We worked within the existing space and made a bright and functional kitchen for the family to enjoy. Photos by Nadine Harris.
