A lower countertop areas gives prep surface for baking and use of small appliances. Geometric hexite tiles by fireclay are finished with pale blue grout, which complements the upper cabinets. The same hexite pattern was recreated by a local artist on the refrigerator panes. A textured striped linen fabric by Ralph Lauren was selected for the interior clerestory windows of the wall cabinets. Large plank french oak flooring ties the whole home together. A custom Nar designed walnut dining table was crafted to be perfectly sized for the dining room. Eclectic furnishings with leather, steel, brass, and linen textures bring contemporary living to this classic bungalow. A reclaimed piano string board was repurposed as a large format coffee table. Every square inch of this home was optimized with storage including the custom dresser hutch with vanity counter. This petite bath is finished with caviar painted walls, walnut cabinetry, and a retro globe light bar. We think all splashes should have a swoop! The mitered countertop ledge is the clients’ favorite feature of this bath.

We designed a contemporary rear extension to open the dark kitchen and create a bright open plan dining room. The extension features fixed glazing panels and a large door opening to flood the space with light. The colourful tiled backsplash add character to the space.

The new dormer allowed part of the kitchen ceiling to be raised, which provided a source for daylight with a rounded clerestory window (repeating the elliptical shape of the trayed ceiling, the island, and the new exterior stone wall). Two new patio doors give wonderful access to the private patio.

On a long blank wall, our team created the ultimate personalized storage space – several niches built into the wall with glass shelves custom sized to our clients’ specifications.

A person’s home is the place where their personality can flourish. In this client’s case, it was their love for their native homeland of Kenya, Africa. One of the main challenges with these space was to remain within the client’s budget. It was important to give this home lots of character, so hiring a faux finish artist to hand-paint the walls in an African inspired pattern for powder room to emphasizing their existing pieces was the perfect solution to staying within their budget needs. Each room was carefully planned to showcase their African heritage in each aspect of the home. The main features included deep wood tones paired with light walls, and dark finishes. A hint of gold was used throughout the house, to complement the spaces and giving the space a bit of a softer feel.

The design is in the details with this kitchen. Everywhere you look there is something to surprise you – from the custom linoleum “rug” surrounding the island, built in niches that hold oils & spices, and custom tiled vent hood to the old fashioned farm sink. This kitchen is the heart of the home and a great gathering place for the clients, their two teenage boys and many friends.
