This kitchen proves small East sac bungalows can have high function and all the storage of a larger kitchen. A large peninsula overlooks the dining and living room for an open concept. A lower countertop areas gives prep surface for baking and use of small appliances. Geometric hexite tiles by fireclay are finished with pale blue grout, which complements the upper cabinets. The same hexite pattern was recreated by a local artist on the refrigerator panes. A textured striped linen fabric by Ralph Lauren was selected for the interior clerestory windows of the wall cabinets. Large plank french oak flooring ties the whole home together. A custom Nar designed walnut dining table was crafted to be perfectly sized for the dining room. Eclectic furnishings with leather, steel, brass, and linen textures bring contemporary living to this classic bungalow. A reclaimed piano string board was repurposed as a large format coffee table. Every square inch of this home was optimized with storage including the custom dresser hutch with vanity counter. This petite bath is finished with caviar painted walls, walnut cabinetry, and a retro globe light bar. We think all splashes should have a swoop! The mitered countertop ledge is the clients’ favorite feature of this bath.

We removed half the full wall between the Living Room and Kitchen, and built an arched opening to make the space seem like it had always been there. The opening brought in light, and allowed us to add an island, which greatly increased our storage space and functionality in the kitchen.

For this 1928 bungalow in the Historic Houston Heights we remodeled the home to give a sense of order to the small home. The spaces that existed were choppy and doors everywhere. In a small space doors can really eat into your living area. We took our cues for style from our contemporary loving clients and their Craftsman bungalow. Our remodel plans focused on the kitchen and den area. There’s a formal living and then an additional living area off the back of the kitchen. We brought purpose to the back den by creating built-ins centered around the windows for their book collection. The window seats and the moveable chairs are seating for the many parties our client’s like to throw. The original kitchen had multiple entries. We closed off a door to the master bedroom to move the refrigerator. That enabled us to open the wall to the front of the house creating a sense of a much larger space while also providing a great flow for entertaining. To reflect our client’s contemporary leaning style we kept the materials white and simple in a way that fits with the house style but doesn’t feel fussy.

Kitchen cabinets are made of natural maple in a flat front door style. The small kitchen was maximized for efficiency with a mixer lift, appliance garage, trash compactor, and cabinets to the ceiling. This amazing renovation focused on solving a series of problems that a previous kitchen expansion had created. By rearranging the appliance placement, updating the cabinetry, designing all new storage solutions and maximizing the amazing outdoor views; we cured the spit personality disorder plaguing the existing kitchen. White base cabinets along the outside walls contrast perfectly with the dark grey island cabinets. Linear satin nickel door and drawer pulls coordinate with the stainless steel appliances and sink. An eclectic blend of vintage and modern furnishings, artwork and rugs create a comfortable balance that feels and looks timeless. Breathtaking backyard views are artfully framed by new Pella windows and doors with integral blinds between the glass. Remodel of an early 1960’s Santa Monica, California kitchen was designed to capture a timeless, yet functional space. The first thing to tackle was the spatial relationships to make the kitchen more functional for this small family. The existing refrigerator was moved to the adjacent wall and surrounded by the utility closet and pantry, creating a built-in look. This allowed us to build one long countertop and create a “furniture hutch” look on one wall. The base cabinet houses the trash/recycle bin on the left and the litter box is concealed in the right end cabinet. Choosing a free standing range and a microwave that is built-in, in an upper cabinet, created more countertop space on the cooking wall. The sink was kept on the diagonal in the corner so that the shelf behind it can be used to display art pieces. The Saarinen marble table is the centerpiece for an area that is wrapped with a medium turquoise painted bead board wainscot. New molded wood chairs complete the look. The serene colors of white, light turquoise and dark brown are timeless, while the stainless appliances, hardware and pendant light fixture add some sparkle. The white cabinets are warmed by the rich chocolate tone of the large porcelain tile floor. The sleek countertops are a toast-colored Caesarstone, selected for durability and ease of use. Glass subway tiles keep the backsplash subtle and contribute to the kitchen’s warm, casual feel.
