Situated in Denton, Texas these clients sought a personalized home from the ground up. It was important that their eclectic style be evidenced in every facet of the home to reflect their lively personalities. The project scope encompassed the dining, kitchen, breakfast nook, living, master bedroom, and master bathroom. Color, fixtures, furnishings, materials, artwork, and accessories were carefully selected to reflect a collective atmosphere and communicate the common theme of vibrancy. One significant challenge was the husband's fear of color. While he has an outgoing personality he did not want the home to feel loud and obnoxious. Putting him at ease was accomplished by presenting a comprehensive design plan with samples laid out so that he gained a clear understanding of how the home would flow together in harmony. An open kitchen design can feel vast and empty without a few personal touches with decor. The key to keeping it looking great all the time is clean clutter free countertops, and a few accessories to add some character.

The Ballard Haus is an exciting Passive House design meant to fit onto a more compact urban lot while still providing an open and airy feeling for our clients. We built up to take full advantage of the extra sunlight for solar gain during the winter, and we crafted an open concept floor plan to maximize our client's space and budget. Part of the goal of the Ballard Haus project was to create a design that could be used in a multitude of urban settings as we get ready to expand our reach into prefab Passive House options.

The open cabinet to the right of the stove, (unfinished by the cabinet company at the time of this photo shoot) is a rolling island with butcher block top that the owners can move around the room as needed.

A kitchen revamp was in order for a local chef and his wife who, manages a local B&B. The foodie duo were tired of their dingy, poorly designed, 1980's style kitchen and desired a bright and open work space where they can kick back and prepare delicious meals for themselves, when they aren't cooking for other people. The space was gutted and reconfigured, switching the sink and stove placement, and situating the refrigerator on the opposite wall, to create a better work triangle. Budget constraints dictated a plan that will be done in phases, and allows more cabinets to be added at a later date, where the open pantry currently lives. A rolling cabinet, with butcher block top, situated to the right of the stove, (unfinished by the cabinet company at the time of the photo shoot), can be pulled into the room to provide a portable island. Budget friendly materials were sourced, including luxury vinyl tile for the floors, that mimics the look of concrete, and laminate counter tops that evoke the look of granite.
