Knotty Cherry cabinets with a natural cherry finish are featured in this modern country kitchen. The homeowners combined three small rooms to create this large kitchen/dining & great room. Niches are tucked into the wall to use space that was wasted under the stairs.

This 1930's small kitchen was in need of expansion. It was closed off to the rest of the house and didn't fit with the modern appliances. Removing a wall and extending the kitchen into the next room created an inviting space open to the dining and family room. Replacing the white painted cabinets with natural white oak custom cabinets gave it a contemporary look with classic touches of marble patterned quartz and handmade subway tile backsplash. The open shelving keeps everyday dishes within easy reach and a place to display artwork.

These clients had family antiques that were very precious to them and at the same time loved very contemporary design. We created a balance of the two by including elements from both aesthetics and using bright white to freshen the overall look.

This family of four wanted to open up their compartmentalized floor plan to create a kitchen that would become the center of their entertaining areas. Aesthetically they wanted to incorporate some fun elements into the design with pops of color and unique lighting and flooring selections. Although they wanted to encourage flow between their kitchen, family and dining rooms, they wanted to maintain the formality of the dining room. A structural wall between the kitchen and living areas required some creative thinking. We were able to eliminate the wall by aligning the structural posts with the posts in the basement. To open up the kitchen space and provide outdoor access, the main staircase was moved to a more central location. Hydronic in-floor heating and a ductless air-conditioning unit provide energy efficient temperature control. The new layout of the kitchen allows the cook to socialize and interact with family and guests in the family and dining rooms. A desk area was created to separate the dining area, but does not block traffic flow or sight lines. The large island offers plenty of prep space and seats four comfortably. A new eight-foot patio door integrates the outdoor space and doesn’t interfere with the functionality of the kitchen. The red tile backsplash adds a punch of color that pairs perfectly with the gray cabinets and white quartz countertop. The honeycomb tile pattern is fun and adds unexpected personality to the whole space.

For this expansive kitchen renovation, Designer, Randy O’Kane of Bilotta Kitchens worked with interior designer Gina Eastman and architect Clark Neuringer. The backyard was the client’s favorite space, with a pool and beautiful landscaping; from where it’s situated it’s the sunniest part of the house. They wanted to be able to enjoy the view and natural light all year long, so the space was opened up and a wall of windows was added. Randy laid out the kitchen to complement their desired view. She selected colors and materials that were fresh, natural, and unique – a soft greenish-grey with a contrasting deep purple, Benjamin Moore’s Caponata for the Bilotta Collection Cabinetry and LG Viatera Minuet for the countertops. Gina coordinated all fabrics and finishes to complement the palette in the kitchen. The most unique feature is the table off the island. Custom-made by Brooks Custom, the top is a burled wood slice from a large tree with a natural stain and live edge; the base is hand-made from real tree limbs. They wanted it to remain completely natural, with the look and feel of the tree, so they didn’t add any sort of sealant. The client also wanted touches of antique gold which the team integrated into the Armac Martin hardware, Rangecraft hood detailing, the Ann Sacks backsplash, and in the Bendheim glass inserts in the butler’s pantry which is glass with glittery gold fabric sandwiched in between. The appliances are a mix of Subzero, Wolf and Miele. The faucet and pot filler are from Waterstone. The sinks are Franke. With the kitchen and living room essentially one large open space, Randy and Gina worked together to continue the palette throughout, from the color of the cabinets, to the banquette pillows, to the fireplace stone. The family room’s old built-in around the fireplace was removed and the floor-to-ceiling stone enclosure was added with a gas fireplace and flat screen TV, flanked by contemporary artwork. This timeless kitchen is the perfect example of how rich color sets the mood. Inspired by Sherwin-Williams’ Dried Thyme, the green cabinetry brings a warm and contemporary look. The kitchen’s original layout is what attracted the owners to this home so with a few changes, the space now better fits the owners’ needs. Straightening out a wall by the large bay window provided space to move the dishwasher, and gave room to build a tall cabinet with organized pullout drawers next to the stove for easy access and storage. This also created room to build a hidden appliance garage and flipping the location of the island sink provided more accessibility to the stove. The bow front stove hood provides visual relief for the linear nature of the cabinets. Green ceramic tiles surround the porcelain herringbone tile in the contrasting niche dedicated to spices and oils, and the adjacent pot filler provides convenience. The island was increased in size to provide for more storage and metal domed pendants provide lighting for both prepping and eating. Double-wall ovens have side handles for easy opening and convenience and provide easy access in a busy kitchen area.
