IDS (Interior Design Society) Designer of the Year - National Competition - 3rd Place award winning Living Space ($30,000 & Under category) Photo by: Shawn St. Peter Photography - What designer could pass on the opportunity to buy a floating home like the one featured in the movie Sleepless in Seattle? Well, not this one! When I purchased this floating home from my aunt and uncle, I undertook a huge out-of-state remodel. Up for the challenge, I grabbed my water wings, sketchpad, & measuring tape. It was sink or swim for Patricia Lockwood to finish before the end of 2014. The big reveal for the finished houseboat on Sauvie Island will be in the summer of 2015 - so stay tuned.

It's hard to find a space in your home that is more inviting than the family room. It should be a place where you can spend quality time with your kids, friends and loved ones. This family room is a blend of custom furniture and gathered treasures. We worked hand-in-hand to incorporate the most comfortable and appealing details.

Here we see how well the small pattern on the throw pillows works so well with the large pattern of the area rug. The pillows are balanced with the solid blue pillows and throw blanket behind them. Add to that, the neutral creams of the sofa and the built ins, along with the texture and color of the brick, and you have a happy cozy well balanced place for your family to relax together/

Styling this metal etagere highlights the personality of the client and creates and interesting focal point for the room.

I was lucky enough to snag this midcentury Takeshi Nii Ny Chair on Craigslist for a photo shoot and absolutely had to bring it home. Find of the century! [Fun fact: Inspired by the classic director's chair, Nii’s innovative, foldable creation was designed in 1958 and is now part of the permanent collection at MoMa.] The little bird pillow was another Zinnias at Melrose find. To add a little texture, I rounded out the seating area with the faux fur ottoman. I’m obsessed with round mirrors—you’ll find them in pretty much all my designs. Whenever there is a great view, I like to put a mirror on the opposite wall to repeat it. Our clients were looking for a soothing and a fun expression of their personalities. Hers: organic, yet refined and artistic. His: leaning slighting contemporary with a splash of sophistication. These lovely people made us smile often. The couple’s love for art and the search for a perfect rug proved to be the inspiration for the living room, as well as hand blown glass pieces in celadon and blue that you see on the cocktail and end table. We were thrilled when this returning client called with a new project! This time, they wanted to overhaul their family room, and they wanted it to really represent their style and personal interests, so we took that to heart. Now, this 'grown-up' Star Wars lounge room is the perfect spot for this family to relax and binge-watch their favorite movie franchise. This space was the primary 'hang-out' zone for this family, but it had never been the focus while we tackled other areas like the kitchen and bathrooms over the years. Finally, it was time to overhaul this TV room, and our clients were on board with doing it in a BIG way. We knew from the beginning we wanted this to be a 'themed' space, but we also wanted to make sure it was tasteful and could be altered later if their interests shifted. We had a few challenges in this space, the biggest of which was storage. They had some DIY bookshelf cabinets along the entire TV wall, which were full, so we knew the new design would need to include A LOT of storage. We opted for a combination of closed and open storage for this space. This allowed us to highlight only the collectibles we wanted to draw attention to instead of them getting lost in a wall full of clutter. We also went with custom cabinetry to create a proper home for their audio- visual equipment, complete with speaker wire mesh cabinet fronts.
