A feature unique to this house, the inset nook functions like an inverted bay window on the interior, with built-in bench seating included, while simultaneously providing built-in seating for the exterior eating area as well. We fully furnished this open concept Dining Room with an asymmetrical wood and iron base table by Taracea at its center. It is surrounded by comfortable and care-free stain resistant fabric seat dining chairs. Above the table is a custom onyx chandelier commissioned by the architect Lake Flato. We helped find the original fine artwork for our client to complete this modern space and add the bold colors this homeowner was seeking as the pop to this neutral toned room. 北から南に細く長い、決して恵まれた環境とは言えない敷地。 その敷地の形状をなぞるように伸び、分断し、それぞれを低い屋根で繋げながら建つ。 この場所で自然の恩恵を効果的に享受するための私たちなりの解決策。 雨や雪は受け止めることなく、両サイドを走る水路に受け流し委ねる姿勢。 敷地入口から順にパブリック-セミプライベート-プライベートと奥に向かって閉じていく。

The cost-effective structure opens up to reveal a breathtaking double-height living space, an epitome of modern design using industrial-grade materials like heavy timbers, concrete, and steel. The highlight is a library loft, perched above the living area wrapped in the warmth of wooden accents. Pendant lighting cascades down, illuminating the polished concrete floors that reflect the ambient light, creating a luminous, expansive atmosphere. This home melds economical construction with luxurious design principles.

岩国のアトリエ 　収蔵庫を含む画家のアトリエと展示室、および住居の計画である。 敷地周辺は、古い瓦屋根と板壁・土壁の家がまだ残る集落であった。アトﾘエ棟は、西側に開けた道路側に低い佇まいで建ち、住居棟は東南の森の木に寄り添うような高さで建つ。二つの棟の間は、南北に細長い庭となり、将来的には彫刻などの野外展示も想定された逍遥的な空間となっている。画家である建主は、自分が住むあるいは過ごす建築は可能な限り土や木などの素材でつくりたいという想いを持ち、建築を手がけた大工は、土と木による素の建築を信念として造り続けていた。これらの人の想いや周囲の環境から、「金物に頼らない木の架構と仕口・継ぎ手、土壁による構造体による建築」を前提に計画を進めた。画家の絵は、「ただ、そこにある」という言葉に導かれて、絵具という素材が、キャンバスの縁まで乗せられ、木枠に嵌めこまれ、厚みを持った絵具の塊にも見えていた。その塊を受ける壁には、やはり厚みを持った質感とディテール、絵画を安全に保管する為の温湿度環境が求められたが、少し離れた山中に建つ厚い土壁と板張りで安定した温室度環境を保つ古いみかん倉庫の素朴な佇まいが、建築の方向を示してくれた。森に佇み、大地に伏せるふたつの建築のかたちが、周囲の自然や環境と心地よく響き合い、豊かな生活と創造の場が生み出されることを願っている。

Yolseuiloyan: Nahuatl word that means "the place where the heart rests and strengthens." The project is a sustainable eco-tourism complex of 43 cabins, located in the Sierra Norte de Puebla, Surrounded by a misty forest ecosystem, in an area adjacent to Cuetzalan del Progreso’s downtown, a magical place with indigenous roots. The cabins integrate bio-constructive local elements in order to favor the local economy, and at the same time to reduce the negative environmental impact of new construction; for this purpose, the chosen materials were bamboo panels and structure, adobe walls made from local soil, and limestone extracted from the site. The selection of materials are also suitable for the humid climate of Cuetzalan, and help to maintain a mild temperature in the interior, thanks to the material properties and the implementation of bioclimatic design strategies. For the architectural design, a traditional house typology, with a contemporary feel was chosen to integrate with the local natural context, and at the same time to promote a unique warm natural atmosphere in connection with its surroundings, with the aim to transport the user into a calm relaxed atmosphere, full of local tradition that respects the community and the environment. The interior design process integrated accessories made by local artisans who incorporate the use of textiles and ceramics, bamboo and wooden furniture, and local clay, thus expressing a part of their culture through the use of local materials.

The view from the foyer into the dining space is welcoming and wonderful! The natural light flooding through the windows is enhanced with wall washing sconces and underlit coves.

We furnished this open concept Breakfast Nook with built-in cushioned bench with round stools to prop up feet and accommodate extra guests at the end of the table. The pair of leather chairs across from the wall of windows at the Quartzite top table provide a comfortable easy-care leather seat facing the serene view. Above the table is a custom light commissioned by the architect Lake Flato.
