A modern dining room for a real family with kids doesn't have to be boring! We limited the decor to keep it sleek and chic but kid friendly.

a classic city home, built in the 50’s. Her family moved in August of ’18, and in less than a year, she’s already completed a number of remodel projects including additions to the master bedroom and 2-bedroom + bath “kids’ wing.” She’s opened walls from the kitchen to the living and dining rooms creating a massive open floor plan and refinished all the original hardwood floors. After seeing her beautifully furnished space and hearing her listing everything she’s done to get her house the way it looks today, I had so many exciting ideas to help her add the finishing touches she was needing and to give her the look she was going for. Referencing her inspiration pics saved to Houzz and Pinterest, the first item on the list was to add window treatments. These were presented in a soft, crisp white fabric which maintains the brightness for each room, diffusing the sunlight throughout, keeping each space light and airy. The simple functional panels give her the privacy she wanted from all the passersby walking the park, which are lined to help regulate the temperature differences she needed. The hardware for these panels is something to mention –simple, modern, matte black rods and brackets, highlighted with acrylic finials and gold rings. This combination is an exclamation point showcasing what custom window treatments can really do for a room. The main dining room window boasts a striking contrast of rich black wide leather tape, drawing your eye right to the beautiful picture window, which in and of itself is a perfect accent to this space. From there, adding the right wall hangings and artwork, task lighting, accessories, and accents layered throughout, mixing lots of textures, metal finishes, and varying shades of color synchronizes one room to the next buttoning up the entire design concept she was striving to achieve.

This beautiful LEED Certified Mediterranean style home rests upon a sloped hillside in a classic Pacific Northwest setting. The graceful Aging In Place design features an open floor plan and a residential elevator all packaged within traditional Mission interiors.

The comfortable dining room is the perfect place to enjoy casual family meals, as well as entertain special guests. The trestle table extends to seat 12, and upholstered chairs are a soft spot for long leisurely dinners. The spectacular chandelier is reminiscent of bleached driftwood that might be found on the nearby beaches.

On the Paito doors we put Flat roman shades up with a small valance to hide the shade when it is completely pulled up. The flat romans do not appear flat because of the ribbed pleat stitch that is added. This is a new trend for flat romans. Above the kitchen sink is the same type of flat roman shade but instead of the small valance you can see we made a larger valance.

When it comes to living in a compact apartment in the city, a big and grand dinning room is just something impossible as those sleek Tom Ford cocktail dresses. However, you can always make some simple change to make your living space more lovely. Try adding some unique design lighting fixtures, or just change the existing bulb to a different color can greatly improve the way your house look.

Brief: Relocate Dining Room and create a more inclusive eating area. Think outside the box with artwork and color selection. Arhaus walnut table paired with multi colored leather curved seating did the trick. In addition, we upcycled an already owned meaningful art piece. This Picasso has beautiful purples/blues/yellows/oranges which helped tie the open dining space with the other living areas. The family can now sit at a round table and share a meal and memories together.

Mixing different fabrics on a set of upholstered chairs looks fabulous. Why not select a different motif for the back and the seat as we’ve done on our Louis and Louis carver chairs? Going for painted wooden chairs instead? Try choosing a couple of different paint shades across the set. The result will be co-ordinated but casual dining space. How to get it right? This timeless contemporary open concept kitchen/dining room was designed for a family that loves to entertain. This family hosts all holiday parties.
