A blend of native grasses and wildflowers brought to life this bright and beautiful front yard space. In addition to looking great, this area is low maintenance and water friendly.

This was a brand new contemporary building on a grand street of houses requiring a garden that would complement the modern design but also meet the clients brief for a low maintenance garden. Brief – The garden needed to look stunning all year round as all main living rooms overlooked the space. The client required a large area for entertaining family and friends, with a large lawn to give space for a marquee for special occasions. Design – Due to the sloping site, this Formal garden was designed with several different levels to create various rooms for entertaining and relaxing. The design consists of three lawns and stunning porcelain paving and steps down to the house. Pleached trees line the large lawn area whilst stepped hedging frame the garden with a variety of hedge to give different shades of green in the summer. Hornbeam hedging was used to create contrast in the winter months with its golden leaves. A sunken area housing an outdoor kitchen and dining area, to include a tandoor oven, bbq, pizza oven and washing facilities will ultimately be covered with a green roof. A bespoke water feature cascading down one side of the garden. Rendered white washed walls tie in with the finish of the house and create drama. The focal point of the garden will ultimately be a large spherical sculpture with a rendered wall as the back drop.

This plant combination offers a wonderful variety of textures and form. Lomandra 'Breeze' is a tough grass-like plant that thrives in the toughest conditions in both sun and shade. The Dianella variegata 'Tasmanian Tiger' offers a lovely texture with its variegated foliage and brightens shady areas. The succulent Echeveria agavoides 'Lipstick' provides a nice edge to the concrete pavers. Elfin thyme is planted between adjacent pavers. All plants have low water needs. Even small spaces need great design. Container and small space gardens - decks, alcoves and patios are all great spots to "green" up with planted pots. Add color, texture and warmth to your small spaces - or drama to a large space - with a well-designed container. Birdbaths, fountains, troughs and more make great containers. Irrigation can be run to your containers or Oyas (water vessels) can be planted in the containers to provide irrigation and to keep your plants healthy.

This lovely estate property boasts a large and focal front entrance and road entry design in balance with the expansive home. The free form driveway inlay breaks up the large front yard drive/ patio space and adds a focal point. Large retained gardens with trees further ground the home. The roadside entry has 2 large address stones and drought tolerant gardens to welcome both residence and visitors alike. This amazing project won 2 "Awards of Excellence" from both Landscape Ontario and Unilock Life in 2010-2011. Landscape design and photography by Melanie Rekola

For this project, the Blu 60 slabs were used in this large backyard to create multiple lounging areas around the pool. The Röcka retaining wall and steps were also used. The Blu 60 slabs are perfect to make a true design statement. Great for patios, decks, and poolsides.
