When my clients purchased this charming 1940's home in the Seattle neighborhood of Wedgwood, they were amazed by how intact the original kitchen was. It was like a perfect time capsule. The color palette was avocado green and buttercream yellow. The highlights were an original retro built-in banquette and vintage oven! The challenge we faced (besides the awesome but dated finishes) was the closed floor plan typical in this era of homes and the lack of storage. So, we opened the kitchen to the adjacent dining and living room, bringing it up to speed with modern-day living. In opening it up, we also walled off a doorway that went from the kitchen to the hallway, but it was completely unnecessary and allowed us to gain an entire wall of cabinets that didn't exist previously. For the finishes, we kept it classic with mostly gray and white but brought in a little flare and interest with the herringbone backsplash and brushed brass finishes because who doesn't love a little gold? Also, we added color with the finishing details like the rug and countertop decor because those things are a great way to add interest and warmth to a space and can be easily changed when it's time for a fresh new look. --- Project designed by interior design studio Kimberlee Marie Interiors. Besides space constraints, there were budget concerns to consider in this NYC apartment kitchen renovation. Design choices were made throughout the rest of the apartment remodel to come in under budget, and of course, on time! We included absolutely everything to make this a dream kitchen from top of the line appliances from Bertazzoni, Liebherr and Miele to signature space saving touches and custom storage solutions nestled in bespoke contemporary shaker cabinets - - like a sink tilt out, garbage roll outs, and spice cabinets - - which make this space feel and function like a much bigger kitchen. We also know that a small space doesn't need to be short on style! We decided this kitchen deserved a custom crown. This is my signature design to incorporate the plaster cove crowns throughout the apartment, only in the millwork version. This contemporary take on a prewar crown was just what was needed! Finally, we needed some pizzazz and added the Firenzecolor Swahili silver architectural coated wall which is front and center from the outside looking in to the kitchen. We achieved our goal: to create an elegant, eye catching center of attention in this tiny kitchen. This small kitchen is now a contemporary pièce de résistance in a timeless prewar building and it's wonderful to know that in the process of creating a modern, warm urban dream kitchen for this lovely client, we also changed her life! Our Clients loved their home, their backyard and their neighborhood, but wanted a new feel to their 1960’s Colonial. So they asked us to give it a complete internal “facelift.” Now, elegant mahogany doors set the tone for the graceful Entrance Hall; the stunning renovated Kitchen is open to the Family Room; the expanded “back of the house” area between the Garage and Kitchen accommodates Laundry and Mud Rooms, a Walk-in Pantry, and Pool Shower Room and Closet. On the second floor, the Kids’ Bedrooms and Bathrooms are updated with new fixtures and finishes; and the reconfigured Master Suite fashions a sun-filled Master Bedroom with vaulted ceiling, a large Dressing Room, and beautiful Bathroom. To our Clients’ delight, the internal “facelift” was a genuine transformation, and gave their home a fresh, new beginning.

Our St. Pete studio gave this beautiful traditional home a warm, welcoming ambience with bold accents and decor. Gray and white wallpaper perfectly frame the large windows in the living room, and the elegant furnishings add elegance and classiness to the space. The bedrooms are also styled with wallpaper that leaves a calm, soothing feel for instant relaxation. Fun prints and patterns add cheerfulness to the bedrooms, making them a private and personal space to hang out.
