We renovated a tired kitchen in a City of London home for our clients. We kept the palette simple and graphic by using a dark panelled wall, stainless steel and white Carrara marble. The polished concrete wall added a subtle modernist touch, and through using a few clever space saving solutions the kitchen is efficient and comfortable for the owner.

This kitchen remodel involved the demolition of several intervening rooms to create a large kitchen/family room that now connects directly to the backyard and the pool area. The new raised roof and clerestory help to bring light into the heart of the house and provides views to the surrounding treetops. The kitchen cabinets are by Italian manufacturer Scavolini. This true mid-century modern home was ready to be revived. The home was built in 1959 and lost its character throughout the various remodels over the years. Our clients came to us trusting that with our help, they could love their home again. This design is full of clean lines, yet remains playful and organic. The first steps in the kitchen were removing the soffit above the previous cabinets and reworking the cabinet layout. They didn't have an island before and the hood was in the middle of the room. They gained so much storage in the same square footage of kitchen. We started by incorporating custom flat slab walnut cabinetry throughout the home. We lightened up the rooms with bright white countertops and gave the kitchen a 3-dimensional emerald green backsplash tile. In the hall bathroom, we chose a penny round floor tile, a terrazzo tile installed in a grid pattern from floor-to-ceiling behind the floating vanity. The hexagon mirror and asymmetrical pendant light are unforgettable. We finished it with a frameless glass panel in the shower and crisp, white tile. In the master bath, we chose a wall-mounted faucet, a full wall of glass tile which runs directly into the shower niche and a geometric floor tile. Our clients can't believe this is the same home and they feel so lucky to be able to enjoy it every day.

Open kitchen has great views to the beautiful back yard through new Fleetwood aluminum windows and doors. The large glass door at left fully pockets into the wall. Cabinets are a combination of natural walnut and lacquer painted uppers with Caesarstone countertops and backsplashes. Duda bar stools by Sossego in walnut neatly fit into the new island. To reduce costs the new kitchen was designed around the owners existing appliances.

A new custom residence in the Harrison Views neighborhood of Issaquah Highlands. The home incorporates high-performance envelope elements (a few of the strategies so far include alum-clad windows, rock wall house wrap insulation, green-roofs and provision for photovoltaic panels). The building site has a unique upper bench and lower bench with a steep slope between them. The siting of the house takes advantage of this topography, creating a linear datum line that not only serves as a retaining wall but also as an organizing element for the home’s circulation. The massing of the home is designed to maximize views, natural daylight and compliment the scale of the surrounding community. The living spaces are oriented to capture the panoramic views to the southwest and northwest, including Lake Washington and the Olympic mountain range as well as Seattle and Bellevue skylines. A series of green roofs and protected outdoor spaces will allow the homeowners to extend their living spaces year-round. With an emphasis on durability, the material palette will consist of a gray stained cedar siding, corten steel panels, cement board siding, T&G fir soffits, exposed wood beams, black fiberglass windows, board-formed concrete, glass railings and a standing seam metal roof. A careful site analysis was done early on to suss out the best views and determine how unbuilt adjacent lots might be developed. The total area is 3,425 SF of living space plus 575 SF for the garage. We were commissioned in 2006 to refurbish and remodel a ground floor and basement maisonette within an 1840s stuccoed house in Notting Hill. From the outset, a priority was to remove various partitions and accretions that had been added over the years, in order to restore the original proportions of the two handsome ground floor rooms. The new stone fireplace and plaster cornice installed in the living room are in keeping with the period of the building.
