Designed in collaboration with Rachel Chudley Interior Design, this bespoke kitchen was part of the full renovation of a North London villa to create a unique family home. The design brings together the signature handleless detailing of our JT Classic in Richlite design alongside custom-bespoke cabinetry in specially sourced European brown oak and custom-fabricated solid brass handles. We were commissioned to transform a large run-down flat occupying the ground floor and basement of a grand house in Hampstead into a spectacular contemporary apartment. The property was originally built for a gentleman artist in the 1870s who installed various features including the gothic panelling and stained glass in the living room, acquired from a French church. Since its conversion into a boarding house soon after the First World War, and then flats in the 1960s, hardly any remedial work had been undertaken and the property was in a parlous state. Quatre mois de travaux ont été nécessaires pour ce projet d’architecture intérieure. Mise en Matière a entièrement rénové le rez-de-chaussée, transformé le sous-sol en rez- de-jardin et agrandi la maison sur les deux niveaux par une extension. L’objectif principal était de relier le rdc (en surplomb) au jardin, et de gagner en luminosité et en espace tout en modernisant cette maison des années 50 . Un bureau, une cuisine d’été, une salle de jeux et une terrasse ont été créées en rez-de jardin ; au rdc une véranda a été créée dans le prolongement de la cuisine avec balcon et escalier donnant sur le jardin. La rénovation du salon, chambre parentale, cuisine et sdb a été pensée dans un style contemporain, donnant à cette maison une deuxième vie

Shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA House of the Year, and winning a RIBA London Award, Sunday Times homes commendation, Manser Medal Shortlisting and NLA nomination the handmade Makers House is a new build detached family home in East London. Having bought the site in 2012, David and Sophie won planning permission, raised finance and built the 2,390 sqft house – by hand as the main contractor ​–​ over the following four years. They set their own brief ​–​ to explore the ideal texture and atmosphere of domestic architecture. This experimental objective was achieved while simultaneously satisfying the constraints of speculative residential development. The house’s asymmetric form is an elegant solution ​– it ​emerged from scrupulous computer analysis of the site’s constraints (proximity to listed buildings; neighbours’ rights to light); it deftly captures key moments of available sunlight while forming apparently regular interior spaces. The pursuit of craftsmanship and tactility is reflected in the house’s rich palette and varied processes of fabrication. The exterior combines roman brickwork with inky pigmented zinc roofing and bleached larch carpentry. Internally, the structural steel and timber work is exposed, and married to a restrained palette of reclaimed industrial materials.

The view from the kitchen into the dining and living rooms. Division of space is necessary in a large open area, so the peninsula seating with walnut paneling and the walnut trim with LED backlighting on the raised ceiling area of the living room provide natural divisions between spaces. The bar area boasts custom chevron cabinet doors, refrigerator drawers, and cubic bronze aluminum splash tile. Kitchen has all quartzite countertops.
