When my clients purchased this charming 1940's home in the Seattle neighborhood of Wedgwood, they were amazed by how intact the original kitchen was. It was like a perfect time capsule. The color palette was avocado green and buttercream yellow. The highlights were an original retro built-in banquette and vintage oven! The challenge we faced (besides the awesome but dated finishes) was the closed floor plan typical in this era of homes and the lack of storage. So, we opened the kitchen to the adjacent dining and living room, bringing it up to speed with modern-day living. In opening it up, we also walled off a doorway that went from the kitchen to the hallway, but it was completely unnecessary and allowed us to gain an entire wall of cabinets that didn't exist previously. For the finishes, we kept it classic with mostly gray and white but brought in a little flare and interest with the herringbone backsplash and brushed brass finishes because who doesn't love a little gold? Also, we added color with the finishing details like the rug and countertop decor because those things are a great way to add interest and warmth to a space and can be easily changed when it's time for a fresh new look. --- Project designed by interior design studio Kimberlee Marie Interiors. The kitchen layout was reconfigured to open up the space and give it a bright, contemporary feel. White cabinets were custom made to fit the Bosch appliances and hide the dishwasher. The wood floors were re-finished and new molding was installed throughout the apartment.

Additional pullout storage was custom designed under the stairs allowing for pantry, brooms and other utility items. When closed, the doors create a finished panelled effect, keeping the stair sophisticated and the storage hidden. Photos: Dave Remple

For their new kitchen, our client chose a sleek induction hob by Neff and an integrated fridge freezer which works very well in the space, as it is quite compact in size. Our bespoke inset handle in burnished brass complements the Pompeian Ash paint colour (Little Greene), and combined with the limed oak floor, there is a sense calmness in this Shaker kitchen. The stainless steel sink is by Abode, whilst the tap is by Quooker.

This inviting 850 sqft ADU in Sacramento checks all the boxes for beauty and function! Warm wood finishes on the flooring, hickory open shelves, and ceiling timbers float on a neutral paint palette of soft whites and tans. Black elements on the cabinetry, interior doors, furniture elements, and decorative lighting act as the “little black dress” of the room. The hand applied plaster-style finish on the fireplace in a charcoal tone provide texture and interest to this focal point of the great room space. With large sliding doors overlooking the backyard and pool this ADU is the perfect oasis with all the conveniences of home!

The stainless steel double oven features a regular oven on the bottom and a steam oven on top. The refrigerator (far right) has been finished with walnut panels to match the cabinets, adding to the sleek and seamless design of the kitchen.

A small compartmentalized kitchen in a 720sqft house was opened up to create a great room. The walls were reconfigured in the house to promote a better functioning layout. The ceiling was raised approximately 6". New LED lights were installed throughout and a chandelier was added in the dining area. The new L-shape kitchen opens to a bright living space thanks to new windows and doors installed on the south facing side of the home. Water-proof laminate was installed throughout.

The back splash and counter top of this contemporary kitchen are the same material, adding a sleek and seamless design. The undermount sink features special components such as the drain board shown here and is available with a cutting board component as well. The stainless steal double oven is a truly special feature with a steam oven on the top.
