Featured in Galerie Magazine, this formerly Mediterranean-style house in Sausalito was completely transformed into a bold, contemporary home with sweeping views of the bay. The strong and sensitive design collaboration between Nicole Hollis and John Lum was perfectly executed to frame the owner’s extensive art and furniture collection. Appointed throughout with custom architectural metal and woodwork touches, this home features a centerpiece cantilevered steel and oak stair and double steel and glass bridges. McNICHOLS® GAL Aluminum Rectangular Bar Grating serves as this home's most noticeable feature, a wing-like platform on the second floor. The Bar Grating wraps around the West and South sides of the house and helps to keep it cool. The material was bolted to the cantilevered steel beams of the home. The steel deck, which extends 8 feet, is wide enough to shade the the sun's intense heat on the floor below. The deck also serves as access to the second floor for general maintenance. McNICHOLS® GAL 150 Aluminum Rectangular Bar Grating was used as stair treads in the home's exterior stair case. The stair treads give the homeowner access to the roof, where water is collected and directed to a 4,000 gallon reservoir beneath driveway. The reservoir is covered by McNICHOLS® GW 200 Steel Rectangular Bar Grating, which is strong enough to handle parked cars.

This 4 bedroom (2 en suite), 4.5 bath home features vertical board–formed concrete expressed both outside and inside, complemented by exposed structural steel, Western Red Cedar siding, gray stucco, and hot rolled steel soffits. An outdoor patio features a covered dining area and fire pit. Hydronically heated with a supplemental forced air system; a see-through fireplace between dining and great room; Henrybuilt cabinetry throughout; and, a beautiful staircase by MILK Design (Chicago). The owner contributed to many interior design details, including tile selection and layout.

For this landscaping project in West Lake Hills, the owners asked us to create a concrete area. If you look closely, you can see, we have given the concrete a patterned appearance. This has given the concrete a marble-like appearance. This area is now a blank canvas. The owners can add potted plants, outdoor furniture, and so on.
