This contemporary bathroom design in Doylestown, PA combines sleek lines with comfort and style to create a space that will be the center of attention in any home. The white DuraSupreme cabinets pair perfectly with the Cambria engineered quartz countertop, Riobel fixtures, and Top Knobs hardware, all accented by Voguebay decorative tile behind the Gatco tilt mirrors. Cabinetry includes a makeup vanity with Fleurco backlit mirror, customized pull-out storage, pull-out grooming cabinet, and tower cabinets with mullion doors. A white Victoria + Albert tub serves as a focal point, next to the contrasting black tile wall. The large alcove shower includes a corner shelf, pebble tile base, and matching pebble shower niche.

This is the master bathroom shower. We expanded the bathroom area by taking over the upstairs apartment kitchen when we combined apartments. This shower features a teak wood shower floor for a luxurious feel under foot. Also in teak is the shower nook for soaps and bottles. The rain head and hand shower make for a flexible and exhilarating bathing experience, complete with a bench for relaxing. Photos by Brad Dickson

This custom shower was created from the ground up with new walls to enlarge the existing space. Heated floors were added using Warmup. 12x24 large format tile called Runway Ebony by Bedrosian was used for the walls. A custom built bench with Cambria Quartz in the Galloway design added a nice feature to the shower. New plumbing and grab bar was added along with three niches. This modern primary bathroom in black and white is a materiality wonderland. Three different tiles were used in the space. White and gray marble flooring, black and white marble wall tiles and a small picket black porcelain tile for the curved wall. All the above is accented with black and white everywhere you look. The key to this bathroom is the use of tile to delineate space. The curved wall around the tub required something that could be installed along the shape of the wall. As an accent, the same tile was used to enhance both the toilet and the two vanity areas. Materials of walnut and high gloss blacks interchange as they bring in vibes from the entire home surrounding this one space. A design and renovation that truly changed the feel, usage and quality of this primary bathroom.

Originally a nearly three-story tall 1920’s European-styled home was turned into a modern villa for work and home. A series of low concrete retaining wall planters and steps gradually takes you up to the second level entry, grounding or anchoring the house into the site, as does a new wrap around veranda and trellis. Large eave overhangs on the upper roof were designed to give the home presence and were accented with a Mid-century orange color. The new master bedroom addition white box creates a better sense of entry and opens to the wrap around veranda at the opposite side. Inside the owners live on the lower floor and work on the upper floor with the garage basement for storage, archives and a ceramics studio. New windows and open spaces were created for the graphic designer owners; displaying their mid-century modern furnishings collection. A lot of effort went into attempting to lower the house visually by bringing the ground plane higher with the concrete retaining wall planters, steps, wrap around veranda and trellis, and the prominent roof with exaggerated overhangs. That the eaves were painted orange is a cool reflection of the owner’s Dutch heritage. Budget was a driver for the project and it was determined that the footprint of the home should have minimal extensions and that the new windows remain in the same relative locations as the old ones. A four bedroom, two bathroom functional design that wraps around a central courtyard. This home embraces Mother Nature's natural light as much as possible. Whatever the season the sun has been embraced in the solar passive home, from the strategically placed north face openings directing light to the thermal mass exposed concrete slab, to the clerestory windows harnessing the sun into the exposed feature brick wall. Feature brickwork and concrete flooring flow from the interior to the exterior, marrying together to create a seamless connection. When your primary bathroom isn't large, it's so important to address the storage needs. By taking out the built in tub, and adding in a freestanding tub, we were able to gain some length for our vanity. We removed the dropped soffit over the mirrors and in the shower to increase visual space and take advantage of the vaulted ceiling. Interest was added by mixing the finish of the fixtures. The shower and tub fixtures are Vibrant Brushed Moderne Brass, and the faucets and all accessories are matte black. We used a patterned floor to create interest and a large format (24" x 48") tile to visually enlarge the shower. This primary bath is a mix of cools and warms and is now a high functioning space for the owners.

You'll find wood floors in the bathroom, something you won't see very often, but they end in an area of tile by the shower, a floating cabinet, and back-lit mirrors.
