This San Rafael front landscape has been dramatically updated with a welcoming concrete pathway entrance, and complimented by a variety of architectural plants, hardy succulents, textural grasses and a majestic, fruitless olive tree. The dramatic transformation is enhanced by a raised corten steel planter at the pathway entrance with gravel and succulents. Two horizontal ipe wood structures provide contemporary accents. New raised concrete planters alongside the new concrete driveway define the property and showcase more colorful succulents. A beautiful gray house paint color and ipe accents complete the remodel. In the landscape design for Insight, primarily succulent plantings are used to create sculptural elements in a high-end residential environment. The repetitive mass plantings of succulents surrounded by pebbles create a contrasting richness of textures between planting and hardscape. The palm tree trunks and the succulents in the planters form sculptural moments in the landscape framing the incredible surrounding views.

Kirk Bianchi of Bianchi Design, an award winning phoenix pool builder and landscape designer, created these interlacing walls to serve as a foil for the guest parking spaces just on the other side of the wall, creating a courtyard experience for the guest quarters that also shielded the view of the driveway just beyond. The interlacing walls created a niche that beckoned pedestrians to find their way. Michaelwoodall.com
