The Master Bedroom was made light and bright by installing motorised skylights above the bed. A Custom Headboard was designed, with custom made bedside tables. The success of a glazed building is in how much it will be used, how much it is enjoyed, and most importantly, how long it will last. To assist the long life of our buildings, and combined with our unique roof system, many of our conservatories and orangeries are designed with decorative metal pilasters, incorporated into the framework for their structural stability. This orangery also benefited from our trench heating system with cast iron floor grilles which are both an effective and attractive method of heating. The dog tooth dentil moulding and spire finials are more examples of decorative elements that really enhance this traditional orangery. Two pairs of double doors open the room on to the garden. Linda McDougald, principal and lead designer of Linda McDougald Design l Postcard from Paris Home, re-designed and renovated her home, which now showcases an innovative mix of contemporary and antique furnishings set against a dramatic linen, white, and gray palette. The English country home features floors of dark-stained oak, white painted hardwood, and Lagos Azul limestone. Antique lighting marks most every room, each of which is filled with exquisite antiques from France. At the heart of the re-design was an extensive kitchen renovation, now featuring a La Cornue Chateau range, Sub-Zero and Miele appliances, custom cabinetry, and Waterworks tile.

Our clients are seasoned home renovators. Their Malibu oceanside property was the second project JRP had undertaken for them. After years of renting and the age of the home, it was becoming prevalent the waterfront beach house, needed a facelift. Our clients expressed their desire for a clean and contemporary aesthetic with the need for more functionality. After a thorough design process, a new spatial plan was essential to meet the couple’s request. This included developing a larger master suite, a grander kitchen with seating at an island, natural light, and a warm, comfortable feel to blend with the coastal setting. Demolition revealed an unfortunate surprise on the second level of the home: Settlement and subpar construction had allowed the hillside to slide and cover structural framing members causing dangerous living conditions. Our design team was now faced with the challenge of creating a fix for the sagging hillside. After thorough evaluation of site conditions and careful planning, a new 10’ high retaining wall was contrived to be strategically placed into the hillside to prevent any future movements. With the wall design and build completed — additional square footage allowed for a new laundry room, a walk-in closet at the master suite. Once small and tucked away, the kitchen now boasts a golden warmth of natural maple cabinetry complimented by a striking center island complete with white quartz countertops and stunning waterfall edge details. The open floor plan encourages entertaining with an organic flow between the kitchen, dining, and living rooms. New skylights flood the space with natural light, creating a tranquil seaside ambiance. New custom maple flooring and ceiling paneling finish out the first floor. Downstairs, the ocean facing Master Suite is luminous with breathtaking views and an enviable bathroom oasis. The master bath is modern and serene, woodgrain tile flooring and stunning onyx mosaic tile channel the golden sandy Malibu beaches. The minimalist bathroom includes a generous walk-in closet, his & her sinks, a spacious steam shower, and a luxurious soaking tub. Defined by an airy and spacious floor plan, clean lines, natural light, and endless ocean views, this home is the perfect rendition of a contemporary coastal sanctuary. This covered deck space features a fireplace, heaters and operable glass to allow the homeowners to customize their experience depending on the weather.

The Kitchen features a large center island with plenty of seating. It was painted a dark brown pulling in the darker tones of the surrounding granite countertops and tile accents.

The design for this bespoke kitchen was inspired by the kitchen in Castle Drogo, designed by the architect Edwin Lutyens. Artichoke was involved in the design of the kitchen aswell as the interior architectural detailing of the chimney corbels and inset dish above the Aga (both details taken from other Lutyens buildings). The stone on the two islands is 30mm thick although 20mm was set into the furniture to ensure visitors are not presented with a wall of stone on entering the room. The top cabinets were inset into the wall and lacquered to colour-match the interior design, hiding them from view.

With a busy working lifestyle and two small children, Burlanes worked closely with the home owners to transform a number of rooms in their home, to not only suit the needs of family life, but to give the wonderful building a new lease of life, whilst in keeping with the stunning historical features and characteristics of the incredible Oast House.
