The dining area was custom designed, custom built, and features both new and reclaimed elements. The kitchen, entry, and living room is all contained at the front of the house facing the ocean. The custom painted (Benjamin Moore White Dove) shaker cabinets were built and finished in our shop. The open floor plan design allows for the family to stay engauged. From the kitchen you can see the dining area, the great room and out onto the screen porch.

This kitchen is compact but very functional. Most kitchens this size might have just a slide in range but this one allows space for oven-microwave combo, and full size frig and cooktop and stainless hood on the same side and the sink side incorporates drawers, trash roll out dishwasher and a base lazy susan.

AFTER: Taken from the living room and looking through where the counter-to-ceiling wall used to separate the kitchen and living room. A large granite counter with a 48" round "table" at the end now replaces the tiny eating area, comfortably seating 4. The table part of the counter is supported by a re-purposed, intricately carved wood table base originally topped by a glass table top. The desk area at the left side of the back wall was demolished and the back counter and cabinets now extend all the way to the window wall, allowing for more kitchen storage. The laminate cabinets were replaced with glazed wood cabinets. The floors (previously tile and carpet) throughout this level of the home were replaced with hand-scraped Acacia wood.

Putting cabinetry along the back wall of our Condo project would have looked clumsy butted up against the window. Instead we made this otherwise awkward corner shine with a striking marble splash back to the ceiling. Keeping the upper cabinets white (which keeps the space open and spacious) adding a splash of colour below and hint of timber and brass means that this small kitchen is not small on style.

A mix of glass front and closed cabinets with open display shelving adds interest to the small space. The round porthole window lets in natural light in a whimsical way.

The ladder can be raised and lowered with the push of a remote. The custom painted (Benjamin Moore White Dove) shaker cabinets were built and finished in our shop.
