These homeowners wanted to freshen up their master bath and at the same time, improve it's overall function and retain/accentuate it's vintage qualities. There was nothing wrong with the hex tile floor, toilet, or vintage tub. The toilet was repurposed, the floor was cleaned up, and the tub refinished. Cabinetry and vintage trim was added in critical locations along with a new, taller one-sink vanity. This bathroom was inspired by nature and designed to feel larger than its 5'ish x 8'ish footprint. We accomplished this by accenting the back wall and tiling the shower surround to the ceiling to draw the eye back and up. Sticking with a neutral, bright color scheme and using a tall vanity mirror helps bounce the light to create the illusion of space.

With new flooring, a refinished bathtub, and stunning floor-to-ceiling white, beveled subway tile, this pull and replace downstairs bathroom transformation dares to impress. Taking the tile all the way to the ceiling created a classic modern look and provided a clean, crisp background for the beautiful plumbing fixtures, wall sconce and decorative mirror. For a splash of elegance and sophistication, a new drain and trip lever were installed to match the finish of the new Luxe Gold Brizo faucets. Adding just the right balance of classic modern luxury, the space was finished off with classic Italian Carrara Marble mosaic flooring and a fresh coat of paint. The existing pedestal sink and toilet were reused to help achieve the homeowner’s budget.

DOWNLOAD NOW   This charming little attic bath was an infrequently used guest bath located on the 3rd floor right above the master bath that we were also remodeling. The beautiful original leaded glass windows open to a view of the park and small lake across the street. A vintage claw foot tub sat directly below the window. This is where the charm ended though as everything was sorely in need of updating. From the pieced-together wall cladding to the exposed electrical wiring and old galvanized plumbing, it was in definite need of a gut job. Plus the hardwood flooring leaked into the bathroom below which was priority one to fix. Once we gutted the space, we got to rebuilding the room. We wanted to keep the cottage-y charm, so we started with simple white herringbone marble tile on the floor and clad all the walls with soft white shiplap paneling. A new clawfoot tub/shower under the original window was added. Next, to allow for a larger vanity with more storage, we moved the toilet over and eliminated a mish mash of storage pieces. We discovered that with separate hot/cold supplies that were the only thing available for a claw foot tub with a shower kit, building codes require a pressure balance valve to prevent scalding, so we had to install a remote valve. We learn something new on every job! There is a view to the park across the street through the home’s original custom shuttered windows. Can’t you just smell the fresh air? We found a vintage dresser and had it lacquered in high gloss black and converted it into a vanity. The clawfoot tub was also painted black. Brass lighting, plumbing and hardware details add warmth to the room, which feels right at home in the attic of this traditional home. We love how the combination of traditional and charming come together in this sweet attic guest bath. Truly a room with a view! When a large family renovated a home nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains, all bathrooms received dazzling upgrades, but none more so than this sweet and beautiful bathroom for their nine year-old daughter who is crazy for every Disney heroine or Princess. We laid down a floor of sparkly white Thassos marble edged with a mother of pearl mosaic. Every space can use something shiny and the mirrored vanity, gleaming chrome fixtures, and glittering crystal light fixtures bring a sense of glamour. The 2nd floor hall bath is a charming Craftsman showpiece. The attention to detail is highlighted through the white scroll tile backsplash, wood wainscot, chair rail and wood framed mirror. The green subway tile shower tub surround is the focal point of the room, while the white hex tile with black grout is a timeless throwback to the Arts & Crafts period.

When I came to stage and photoshoot the space my clients let the photographer know there wasn't a room in the whole house PID didn't do something in. When I asked why they originally contacted me they reminded me it was for a cracked tile in their owner's suite bathroom. We all had a good laugh. Tschida Construction tackled the construction end and helped remodel three bathrooms, stair railing update, kitchen update, laundry room remodel with Custom cabinets from Pro Design, and new paint and lights throughout. Their house no longer feels straight out of 1995 and has them so proud of their new spaces. That is such a good feeling as an Interior Designer and Remodeler to know you made a difference in how someone feels about the place they call home.
