Linear fireplaces are fast becoming the design standard. The 60" double sided linear fireplace gives the best of both worlds: heat and views in both the master bathroom and bedroom. The 2 person Jacuzzi jetted tub is 60"x72" allowing ample soaking space to melt away. The homeowners added the optional Wenge wood top. The dark Emperor marble tiles, on the tub deck, continue into the shower surround. The mosaic accent tile is featured behind the sconces (on the cabinet wall) and in the shower as well for a cohesive blend of materials.

The layout of the master bathroom was created to be perfectly symmetrical which allowed us to incorporate his and hers areas within the same space. The bathtub crates a focal point seen from the hallway through custom designed louvered double door and the shower seen through the glass towards the back of the bathroom enhances the size of the space. Wet areas of the floor are finished in honed marble tiles and the entire floor was treated with any slip solution to ensure safety of the homeowners. The white marble background give the bathroom a light and feminine backdrop for the contrasting dark millwork adding energy to the space and giving it a complimentary masculine presence. Storage is maximized by incorporating the two tall wood towers on either side of each vanity – it provides ample space needed in the bathroom and it is only 12” deep which allows you to find things easier that in traditional 24” deep cabinetry. Manmade quartz countertops are a functional and smart choice for white counters, especially on the make-up vanity. Vanities are cantilevered over the floor finished in natural white marble with soft organic pattern allow for full appreciation of the beauty of nature. This home has a lot of inside/outside references, and even in this bathroom, the large window located inside the steam shower uses electrochromic glass (“smart” glass) which changes from clear to opaque at the push of a button. It is a simple, convenient, and totally functional solution in a bathroom. The center of this bathroom is a freestanding tub identifying his and hers side and it is set in front of full height clear glass shower enclosure allowing the beauty of stone to continue uninterrupted onto the shower walls. Debbie Schwab Photography. The wall tiles are 12" x 12" black marble tiles I had the tile installers cut into threes. Stainless steel bars that were all custom cut are at the bottom and top of the tiles. Instead of having a standard niche that fits between studs, I had the guys frame out a wider one. Above it is another niche that is short just for housing soaps and razors. Next step is the glass.

Debbie Schwab Photography. We just added this shower. The old one was a standard 36" pan with a foot of extra space in the wall that we were able to utilize to create a two person shower. The floor tiles are penny tiles from Ann Sacks. We used them both on the floor and ceiling.

His-and-her zones in the master bath hold separate water closets and light-stained oak vanities with louvered drawer fronts, giving a coastal nod and balancing the more formal, modern elements. In the no-threshold shower, the knee wall supports a floating bench and two toiletry niches for supplies.

White marble and English oak juxtapose to create an over the top master bath that feels both timeless and up to the minute modern.

Our homeowners wanted a master bathroom remodel that would allow them to continue to age in place. They had no intention of leaving their Hermosa Beach bungalow. Aging in place was a central focus of the design. Starting with the wall mounted toilet which was selected for ease of cleaning. The double walk in shower features grab bars and glass hinged doors. Unique to this double shower is that each homeowner selected their preferred shower head and valve to be used; They are not even the same brands! This was one of the ways that the remodel was personalized to the homeowners to meet each of their needs. Since there was no room for a swinging door a barn door ended up to be a stylish resolution. Frosted glass gives the homeowners some privacy but still allows for light. They wanted cabinetry with a rustic feel. The finished project offers the homeowners a shaker style door which slides open. We also included a stacked linen closet for additional storage. The bathroom features marble wainscoting which continues into the shower. The border tile, in a simple stacked stone, continues onto the backsplash to tie the whole room together.
