This remodel went from a tiny story-and-a-half Cape Cod, to a charming full two-story home. The Master Bathroom has a custom built double vanity with plenty of built-in storage between the sinks and in the recessed medicine cabinet. The walls are done in a Sherwin Williams wallpaper from the Come Home to People's Choice Black & White collection, number 491-2670. This small bathroom previously had a 3/4 shower. The bath was reconfigured to include a tub/shower combination. The square arch over the tub conceals a shower curtain rod. For the Master Bathroom, there was previously a large jacuzzi tub and small shower in the corner of the bathroom. We decided to remove the tub and instead create a larger shower and convert the existing shower into an open linen closet with custom wood shelving. Further our client asked us for the color green in this bathroom. We then looked for a way to highlight the color green without being overpowering and still keeping it light. We went with a 3×12 jade green subway for an accent wall in the shower in a stacked pattern, keeping it contemporary. We also extended the shower niche from side to side to further emphasize this accent wall and to also give maximum storage inside the shower. We then highlighted and balanced out the jade green with a 12×24 marble porcelain tile running the opposite direction and extending outside the shower to give a grandeur and larger feel. We also made sure to wrap glass all the way around the shower and shower bench to open the space more. We also repeated the same shade of green in the vanity and used polished nickel plumbing fixtures and hardware throughout.

Modern blue and gold guest bathroom features a 24” navy blue vanity with white marble countertop, rectangular undermount sink and brushed bronze sink faucet. A frameless glass shower enclosure is finished with a light gray penny porcelain mosaic floor tile & white porcelain tile shower walls.

This beautiful small guest bathroom was completely transformed. Matte porcelain tiles in varying sizes and patterns were used throughout. To make the space appear larger we used a vanity with an open shelf on the bottom and a frameless bypass shower door.

Gardner/Fox designed and updated this home's master and third-floor bath, as well as the master bedroom. The first step in this renovation was enlarging the master bathroom by 25 sq. ft., which allowed us to expand the shower and incorporate a new double vanity. Updates to the master bedroom include installing a space-saving sliding barn door and custom built-in storage (in place of the existing traditional closets. These space-saving built-ins are easily organized and connected by a window bench seat. In the third floor bath, we updated the room's finishes and removed a tub to make room for a new shower and sauna.

A Customized Space Saving Bathroom with a Blue and Gold Shaker style Vanity and Finish. Vanity Includes Custom Shelving and Carrara A Quartz with one Under mount sink. For extra storage we included the Over the Toilet Wall Cabinet. The Alcove Shower Stall has White subway Tile with white corner shelves and a Smoky Blue Shower Floor.

Our clients wanted a REAL master bathroom with enough space for both of them to be in there at the same time. Their house, built in the 1940’s, still had plenty of the original charm, but also had plenty of its original tiny spaces that just aren’t very functional for modern life. The original bathroom had a tiny stall shower, and just a single vanity with very limited storage and counter space. Not to mention kitschy pink subway tile on every wall. With some creative reconfiguring, we were able to reclaim about 25 square feet of space from the bedroom. Which gave us the space we needed to introduce a double vanity with plenty of storage, and a HUGE walk-in shower that spans the entire length of the new bathroom! While we knew we needed to stay true to the original character of the house, we also wanted to bring in some modern flair! Pairing strong graphic floor tile with some subtle (and not so subtle) green tones gave us the perfect blend of classic sophistication with a modern glow up. Our clients were thrilled with the look of their new space, and were even happier about how large and open it now feels!

The original house was demolished to make way for a two-story house on the sloping lot, with an accessory dwelling unit below. The upper level of the house, at street level, has three bedrooms, a kitchen and living room. The “great room” opens onto an ocean-view deck through two large pocket doors. The master bedroom can look through the living room to the same view. The owners, acting as their own interior designers, incorporated lots of color with wallpaper accent walls in each bedroom, and brilliant tiles in the bathrooms, kitchen, and at the fireplace tiles in the bathrooms, kitchen, and at the fireplace. An Arts & Crafts Bungalow is one of my favorite styles of homes. We have quite a few of them in our Stockton Mid-Town area. And when C&L called us to help them remodel their 1923 American Bungalow, I was beyond thrilled. As per usual, when we get a new inquiry, we quickly Google the project location while we are talking to you on the phone. My excitement escalated when I saw the Google Earth Image of the sweet Sage Green bungalow in Mid-Town Stockton. "Yes, we would be interested in working with you," I said trying to keep my cool. But what made it even better was meeting C&L and touring their home, because they are the nicest young couple, eager to make their home period perfect. Unfortunately, it had been slightly molested by some bad house-flippers, and we needed to bring the bathroom back to it "roots." We knew we had to banish the hideous brown tile and cheap vanity quickly. But C&L complained about the condensation problems and the constant fight with mold. This immediately told me that improper remodeling had occurred and we needed to remedy that right away. The Before: Frustrations with a Botched Remodel The bathroom needed to be brought back to period appropriate design with all the functionality of a modern bathroom. We thought of things like marble countertop, white mosaic floor tiles, white subway tile, board and batten molding, and of course a fabulous wallpaper. This small (and only) bathroom on a tight budget required a little bit of design sleuthing to figure out how we could get the proper look and feel. Our goal was to determine where to splurge and where to economize and how to complete the remodel as quickly as possible because C&L would have to move out while construction was going on. The Process: Hard Work to Remedy Design and Function During our initial design study, (which included 2 hours in the owners’ home), we noticed framed images of William Morris Arts and Crafts textile patterns and knew this would be our design inspiration. We presented C&L with three options and they quickly selected the Pimpernel Design Concept. We had originally selected the Black and Olive colors with a black vanity, mirror, and black and white floor tile. C&L liked it but weren’t quite sure about the black, We went back to the drawing board and decided the William & Co Pimpernel Wallpaper in Bayleaf and Manilla color with a softer gray painted vanity and mirror and white floor tile was more to their liking. After the Design Concept was approved, we went to work securing the building permit, procuring all the elements, and scheduling our trusted tradesmen to perform the work. We did uncover some shoddy work by the flippers such as live electrical wires hidden behind the wall, plumbing venting cut-off and buried in the walls (hence the constant dampness), the tub barely balancing on two fence boards across the floor joist, and no insulation on the exterior wall. All of the previous blunders were fixed and the bathroom put back to its previous glory. We could feel the house thanking us for making it pretty again. The After Reveal: Cohesive Design Decisions We selected a simple white subway tile for the tub/shower. This is always classic and in keeping with the style of the house. We selected a pre-fab vanity and mirror, but they look rich with the quartz countertop. There is much more storage in this small vanity than you would think. The Transformation: A Period Perfect Refresh We began the remodel just as the pandemic reared and stay-in-place orders went into effect. As C&L were already moved out and living with relatives, we got the go-ahead from city officials to get the work done (after all, how can you shelter in place without a bathroom?). All our tradesmen were scheduled to work so that only one crew was on the job site at a time. We stayed on the original schedule with only a one week delay. The end result is the sweetest little bathroom I've ever seen (and I can't wait to start work on C&L's kitchen next). Thank you for joining me in this project transformation.
