Ann Arbor Mother-in-Law Bathroom Remodel

Ann Arbor homeowner was looking to remodel a bathroom for mother-in-law moving in. Merillat Masterpiece in Quarter Sawn Oak, Peppercorn finish. The countertops are Athena Granite, fixtures are in polished chrome, and the tile is all from Virginia Tile. The floor tile which looks like wood is Tabula Cenere 6x36 Rectified. It ties in beautifully with the soft brown tones in the shower of Stone Project Gold Falda Vein 12x24. The real show stopper here and focal point is the beautiful pepple accent running vertical to match with the floor - Random Cobbles Sterling MegaMix. The drop down bench on left makes it easy for Mom to maneuver in and out of the shower. Access - grab bars along the outside and inside shower walls provide needed assistance and serve also as towel racks.

The clients wanted a spa-like feel to their new master bathroom. So, we created an open, serene space made airy by the glass wall separating the tub/shower area from the vanity/toilet area. Keeping the palate neutral gave this space a luxe look while the windows brought the outside in.

A single panel of glass was installed on top of the new shower curb to open up the room more and make it appear larger. Delta Nura oil rubbed bronze shower fixtures were installed to match the Pfister Jaida Center-set Faucet in Oil-Rubbed Bronze and the glass panel hardware. The old biscuit colored toilet was replaced by a comfort height white toilet to finish off the remodel.

After many years of careful consideration and planning, these clients came to us with the goal of restoring this home’s original Victorian charm while also increasing its livability and efficiency. From preserving the original built-in cabinetry and fir flooring, to adding a new dormer for the contemporary master bathroom, careful measures were taken to strike this balance between historic preservation and modern upgrading. Behind the home’s new exterior claddings, meticulously designed to preserve its Victorian aesthetic, the shell was air sealed and fitted with a vented rainscreen to increase energy efficiency and durability. With careful attention paid to the relationship between natural light and finished surfaces, the once dark kitchen was re-imagined into a cheerful space that welcomes morning conversation shared over pots of coffee. Every inch of this historical home was thoughtfully considered, prompting countless shared discussions between the home owners and ourselves. Master bathroom renovation. This bathroom was a major undertaking. Where you see the mirrored doors, it was a single vanity with a sink. It made more sense to have a double vanity on the other side next to the shower but I was missing a medicine cabinet so we decided to add a ROBERN 72" long medicine cabinet in the wall that used to be a small towel closet. The arched entry way was created after moving the wall and removing the door into a dark space where you see the toilet & bidet. The travertine floors are heated (a nice addition at is not expensive to do). Added a 70" free-standing stone tub by Clarke tubs (amazing tub), I love venetian plaster because it's so timeless and very durable. It's not used much these days probably because it's so labor intensive and expensive so I did the plastering myself. We raised up the floor and opted for no shower doors that I've wanted for many, many years after seeing this idea in France. The crowded, outdated master bathroom did not have enough space with the built in tub taking up a majority of the space. Access to the shower was limited with the door facing the toilet. By removing the tub, repositioning the toilet, and removing a half wall, the bathroom became huge! The lighter colorway also contributed to the light, open feel.

浴室リフォームのデザイン、レイアウト、費用

浴室リフォームの技法には大きく分けて「在来工法」と「ユニットバス (システムバス)」の2通りがあります。

在来工法：「在来工法」とは、壁、床、窓枠、浴槽などを実際の現場で左官、大工、タイル職人等が作り上げていく技法で、浴室の大きさや形に合わせて自由にレイアウトをデザインできたり、趣のあるタイルで壁を演出することができたりといった点が利点と言えます。昔ながらのこの技法には、費用が高い、工期が長い、年数が経つと水漏れの心配がある、などの注意点があります。
ユニットバス（システムバス）：比較的新しいこの技法は、予め工場で生産されたパーツ (壁、バスタブ、シャワーユニットなど) を現場で組み立てていく技法で、防水性、断熱性に優れ、工期を短縮できるだけでなく、費用も大幅に抑えることができます。在来工法と比べると、デザインやレイアウトの自由度が低い点が欠点としてあげられます。

浴室にプラスアルファでお風呂タイムをもっと楽しく

介護が必要な方には、浴室に浴槽手すりやシャワーチェア、すべり止めマットなどの安全グッズを使って、癒やしの時間を安全にゆっくりと楽しんでもらいましょう。浴室に床暖房を取り入れると、冬場のあのヒンヤリ感がなくなり、ヒートショックの防止に効果が期待できます。大粒のお湯が頭上から降り注ぐように全身を包み込むレインシャワー水栓は、効率的に身体を温めてくれます。また最近では、浴室テレビを装備して、あたたかいお湯に浸かりながらテレビ番組や映画を楽しむ方も増えています。ライフスタイルにあわせて、浴室をカスタマイズしてみてはいかがでしょうか？

ラクラク片付け、快適な浴室！

シャンプーやコンディショナーのボトルや、浴槽洗いのブラシは、ワイヤーラック、つっぱりコーナーラック、吸盤シェルフなど壁面収納グッズを活用して、浴室の使いやすい場所に設置しましょう。ボディスポンジなど、肌に触れるものはお掃除グッズから離れた場所に置き、しっかり水切りができるよう吸盤フックなどにかけるといいでしょう。また、浴室内には必要なアイテムだけをセレクトして置き、余分なモノは浴室外の脱衣所の棚に保管するなどの工夫も、お風呂場を清潔に保つコツです。風呂ふたも、フックやスタンド等を使って収納し、しっかり乾燥させれば、カビやぬめりの発生を防ぐことができます。

ホテルのようなバスルームをつくるコツ

ホテルライクなバスルームに誰しもが憧れたことがあるでしょう。すっきりとした収納、余計なものやプライベート感がない、トイレとバスが一緒の三点ユニットでも清潔感があるのがホテルのバスルームの特徴です。このようなシンプルな印象のバスルームにするコツは、収納をできるかぎり1カ所にまとめるということです。タオルや着替え、トイレットペーパーや洗剤など溢れがち (しかもバスルームに置きがち) な日用品のストックは、必要分だけをコンパクトに整理して、同素材や同系色の収納ボックスやラックにまとめることで、全体を統一感ある印象に見せます。ところで、このようなホテルライクなバスルームはアメリカのバスルームが元になっていますが、アメリカの Houzz サイトの特集記事 (Story) には、“Bathroom 1 1/2” や “Bathroom 3/4” などと表記されているものがあります。これは、バスルームを「バスタブ」、「シャワー」、「トイレ」、「洗面台」の4つ分けて、それぞれ 1/4 と考え、4つすべてある場合は ”Bathroom 1”、それに加えてトイレと洗面台がもう1カ所ずつある場合は “Bathroom 1 1/2”、シャワー、トイレ、洗面台だけでバスタブがない場合は “Bathroom 3/4” のように表現されます。
