Master Bathroom features a Japanese soaker tub, enlarged shower with 4 1/2" x 12" white subway tile on walls, niche and celling., dark gray 2" x 2" shower floor tile with Schluter tiled drain, floor to ceiling shower glass, and quartz waterfall knee wall cap with integrated seat and curb cap. Floor has dark gray 12" x 24" tile on Schluter heated floor and same tile on tub wall surround with wall niche. Shower, tub and vanity plumbing fixtures and accessories are Delta Champagne Bronze. Vanity is custom built with quartz countertop and backsplash, undermount oval sinks, wall mounted faucets, wood framed mirrors and open wall medicine cabinet.

This view shows how we installed the soaking tub as close to the corner to gain as much space to enlarge the walk in shower. The tub top is engineered quartz -providing my Client with easy cleaning. The 1/2 wall and the vanity tops use the same quartz. Steps leading up to the tub use different color tile so that the Client can see the different height levels in the steps. The top step also becomes the bench top that extends into the shower area.

The master ensuite includes an over-sized walk-in shower and a custom built Japanese style cedar bathtub. An extra large skylight above the tub and a clerestory above the mirror provide for lots of natural light, and a large format patterned tile in the shower/tub space provides texture and contrast to an otherwise clean space. A separate water closet (not pictured, to the right) removes the toilet from the larger room, keeping the vanity and tub space tranquil and clean.

For those that are above-average in height, standard bathroom fixtures can be difficult to truly enjoy. For this homeowner a soaking tub with a water depth that would be near his shoulders was top priority. The solution was a square Japanese-style soaking tub with a built-in seat. The stepped details add function and also cascading interest to the space, with steps to enter the tub and a shower bench seat. This large master bathroom is also outfitted with loads of cabinetry for both him and her. However, the best feature of this room is the traditional detailing brought in by the tile pattern. The neutral, travertine-look tile is elevated to new heights by varying the sizing and installation and adding in delicate metallic accents.

浴室リフォームの技法には大きく分けて「在来工法」と「ユニットバス (システムバス)」の2通りがあります。

在来工法：「在来工法」とは、壁、床、窓枠、浴槽などを実際の現場で左官、大工、タイル職人等が作り上げていく技法で、浴室の大きさや形に合わせて自由にレイアウトをデザインできたり、趣のあるタイルで壁を演出することができたりといった点が利点と言えます。昔ながらのこの技法には、費用が高い、工期が長い、年数が経つと水漏れの心配がある、などの注意点があります。
ユニットバス（システムバス）：比較的新しいこの技法は、予め工場で生産されたパーツ (壁、バスタブ、シャワーユニットなど) を現場で組み立てていく技法で、防水性、断熱性に優れ、工期を短縮できるだけでなく、費用も大幅に抑えることができます。在来工法と比べると、デザインやレイアウトの自由度が低い点が欠点としてあげられます。

ホテルライクなバスルームに誰しもが憧れたことがあるでしょう。すっきりとした収納、余計なものやプライベート感がない、トイレとバスが一緒の三点ユニットでも清潔感があるのがホテルのバスルームの特徴です。このようなシンプルな印象のバスルームにするコツは、収納をできるかぎり1カ所にまとめるということです。タオルや着替え、トイレットペーパーや洗剤など溢れがち (しかもバスルームに置きがち) な日用品のストックは、必要分だけをコンパクトに整理して、同素材や同系色の収納ボックスやラックにまとめることで、全体を統一感ある印象に見せます。ところで、このようなホテルライクなバスルームはアメリカのバスルームが元になっていますが、アメリカの Houzz サイトの特集記事 (Story) には、“Bathroom 1 1/2” や “Bathroom 3/4” などと表記されているものがあります。これは、バスルームを「バスタブ」、「シャワー」、「トイレ」、「洗面台」の4つ分けて、それぞれ 1/4 と考え、4つすべてある場合は ”Bathroom 1”、それに加えてトイレと洗面台がもう1カ所ずつある場合は “Bathroom 1 1/2”、シャワー、トイレ、洗面台だけでバスタブがない場合は “Bathroom 3/4” のように表現されます。
