A corridor is a passage in an apartment or a house, which connects the spaces within. These passageways needn’t be strictly functional – from gorgeous sculptures to beautiful paintings to plants, here are different ways to break down the visual boxiness of the area and add focal points of interest.
1. Glam it up
If sprawling passageways thread your mansion, then glam it up – after all, they are one the most-used areas of the house. It can be with decorative balustrades, crystal chandeliers or even eyecatching, glistening floors. Take a cue from this image that embraces grandeur unabashedly.

2. Set up purpose furniture
Any purpose furniture, such as a bench or even a cupboard, enhances the functional value of the passageway. The bedroom corridor is used as an extended walk-in wardrobe and seating area. Wooden accents lend a cosy vibe to the space.

4. Enhance the inside–outside connection
A corridor outside deserves as much attention as one inside. Here, the accent wall bordering the corridor is decorated with a sculpture and other accessories. It makes the most of the open space adjacent to it. The transparent glass doors let in natural light and provide alluring views of the outside, and also fold back to give untrammelled access.

5. Frame it up
Hanging pictures, frames and the like is another space-saving way to decorate the corridor – especially if the area is narrow. A memorabilia wall with family photographs or images can add a personal touch. Alternatively, you can just hang empty decorative frames, as shown here.

6. Opt for an eclectic colour scheme
Forlorn corridors and passages often lack lustre and light. Introduce pops of colour to bring in vibrancy and vivaciousness to the passageway. Take a cue from the stained glass doors in geometrical shapes which boost the vivacity of this area.
