I had used different cabinet manufacturers in the past for transitional style homes but my latest project was my own contemporary style house. After looking at lots of options for colors and finishes I met Hamlet at Newline Cabinets who was referred by a friend. I visited his shop and I was impressed by his computerized and up to date machinery, very clean shop, and his professional and patient attitude. The variety of materials, finishes and options that were offered was great. “Cabinet Refresh completed several jobs at our new home. First, they remodeled the kitchen and laundry area. This meant painting and refacing the existing cabinets; offering advice on paint colors, backsplash, and hardware choices; installing a new countertop and backsplash; painting a banquette; and installing new faucets and the existing dishwasher, water filtration unit, and garbage disposal. Second, they refinished the wood cabinets in two bathrooms, in both cases darkening the existing finish from a medium brown to more of an espresso that was more complementary to the existing tile in the bathrooms; third, they repainted the cabinet in our office bathroom, which were initially a room-shrinking black, to a light gray that made the room feel much more open; and fourth, they demoed our powder room. (We have yet to have them install new cabinets there, but we intend to use them for this job as well.) We worked primarily with Scott, secondarily with Nathan. Scott's strengths are that he has an excellent visual aesthetic; unlike most contractors we met with, he understands where and how to spend money for the most effect; and he offers hands-down the most competitive price for this type of work of the people we obtained quotes from in Los Angeles. (Other quote were not even close.) His crew was very professional and did very good work. There were hiccups here and there, but Scott and Nathan always handled any issues that arose in a professional manner and were committed to ensuring that we were satisfied with all work. We now have a very beautiful kitchen and several beautiful bathrooms. Houzz only lets up upload 4 photos, so we can't quite show how dramatic the transformation was, but suffice it to say that the different is astounding. We look forward to working with Scott and his team on our powder room.”

“What started as a kitchen and bath remodel turned into us taking the house down to the studs. We hired a general contractor but were not comfortable with who he partnered with from a custom cabinet perspective. Seemed like he took a lot of cheap shortcuts. While our home was much more modest, my wife fell in love with the cabinet styles she had seen at a party we attended in a home in the Sherwood Country Club development. She took a picture and wanted a similar design. So we interviewed all of the custom cabinet companies within 50 miles of us. Charlie from CJS was an easy choice. You could tell he knows the business inside out. He listens - wanting this to be YOUR masterpiece, not just his idea. He showed us a portfolio of his work and wouldn't you know it - he was the guy who did the Sherwood home (turns out he did a high percentage of the homes there). I was worried about price but he was in the range of the other guys and at a much higher quality. We ended up doing all of our kitchen cabinets, an island, a home entertainment built in (wall to wall), laundry cabinets, 2 bathrooms, all of the crown molding throughout the house and he also did an upstairs built in office. All of it was gorgeous! He suggested darker kitchen cabinets with a lighter washed island for contrast and it is beautiful. My office built-in has a very rich cherry finish. Charlie knows his craft like no other. The way he sketches out options right in front of you you'd swear he's more of an artist. He has a great personality. He is prompt - when he says he will be there he is, as will his crew (Peter did our staining and several years later the cabinets are still gorgeous). We've had so many flaky contractors (if anyone can find my plumber he still owes us work) that it was just a huge relief for one to be reliable. Best of all, he made suggestions for configuring our upstairs master bath with a built-in steam shower that we wanted that our General Contractor couldn't figure out how to make it work. He really turned out to be our guide on the whole project, and we can't thank him enough. I've become friends with Charlie since he did the job. How many home improvement contractors can you say that about?”
