“We needed a custom fabricated staircase, railing and matching 2nd floor banister that took advantage of a corner 'deadspace' in our A-frame house, and SMW came through with smart design, flexibilty, quality workmanship, and exceptional responsiveness. Due to the steep grade of the ceiling, measurement had to be perfect to allow enough headroom, as well as allow enough steps to get to the second floor. Peter drove out to our house (nearly three hours away) to measure once, then drove out a second time to install. For example, there is a "tree niche" near the front entry that adds architectural playfulness to the space and a view of nature with natural light to the interior of our front entry. The accent wall that divides the living room and dining room features a 48" see-through linear fireplace. The amazing light-filled stairwell featuring two skylights, glass railings, and views of all four levels of our home. Every inch of this home is thoughtful design and there is no wasted or awkward space. The space feels and looks a lot larger than homes of similar square footage. Matt has designed the layout around our future furniture and even designed special niches for some of our pieces! During this entire home-building process, our architect/ client relationship has evolved into a great friendship.
