Our final installment for this project is the Lake Forest Freshen Up: Kitchen + Breakfast Area. Below is a BEFORE photo of what the Kitchen looked like when the homeowners purchased their home. The previous homeowners wanted a “lodge” look but they did overdo it a bit with the ledge stone. We lightened up the Kitchen considerably by painting the cabinetry neutral white with a glaze. Creative Finishes by Kelly did an amazing job. The lighter cabinetry contrasts nicely with the hardware floor finish and the dark granite countertops. Even the ledge stone looks great! The island has a wonderful shape with an eating area on the end where 3 stools fit snugly underneath. The oversized pendants are the perfect scale for the large island. The unusual chandelier makes a statement in the Breakfast Area. We added a pop of color with the artwork and grounded this area with a fun geometric rug. There is a lot of cabinetry in this space so we broke up the desk area by painting it Sherwin Williams’ Gauntlet Gray (SW7019), the same color we painted the island column. The homeowners’ wine cabinet and two fun chairs that we reupholstered in a small geometric pattern finish off this area. This Lake Forest Freshen Up: Kitchen + Breakfast Area is truly a transformation without changing the footprint. When new cabinetry is not an option or your current cabinetry is in great shape but not a great finish, you should consider painting them. This Louisville, Kentucky, Residential Kitchen Remodel displays a mix of surfaces and textures. Custom glass countertop is paired with butcher block, warm-white painted cabinets, black appliances, under-mount sink and a stone- tile back splash for a transitional kitchen design that is both sophisticated and accessible. This galley kitchen is a more traditional, french country design, elevated by the clever surprise of the custom, blue green glass counter top. Cast and Fused glass is machine edged, hand polished and back painted; Fabrication by J.C. Moag Glass, located in Jeffersonville, Indiana and servicing Ketuckiana and the Ohio valley area. J.C. To create this much-needed walk in pantry space, a small square footage was taken from the adjoining living room space. The living room was oversized and underused so the space was not missed. This is part of a first floor renovation completed by Meadowlark Design + Build in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

A once dark and dated kitchen with virtually no counter space or storage looks fresh and bright. We doubled the size of the window over the sink; chose to forego upper cabinets on the stove side to allow twice as much counter space than previously; took out a poorly designed walk-in pantry and instead designed a huge pullout pantry cabinet. The stone stove wall is porcelain for easy cleaning, but was chosen to match the stone on the living room fireplace. It provides a gorgeous statement, only flanked by the beautiful sconces. The island was also enlarged to double in size and turned to face the lake; it houses microwave drawer and 2-pullout drink refrigerators for easy access. A custom built-in china cabinet stands where there was once a washer/dryer in the powder room behind, providing even more storage in a piece that looks like it's always been there. By keeping the lowers and island in a soft sage green and only the refrigerator and pantry section, as well as the hutch in a soft white with black accents, this kitchen looks updated, fresh and an entertainers dream.
