Having designed the kitchen in their previous home (see Davis Rockwell Kitchen) - which they loved for many years – this couple came back to us with one main request, to design a similar but more upscale interpretation for their new home. As with the previous kitchen, the clients wanted an open space for entertaining and dedicated areas to showcase their large collection of art pieces. The existing builder grade kitchen didn’t fit their personal style or wish list. Knowing that the client’s intention was for this house to be their forever home, it was vital to give them a design that worked well now as well as for future needs. Knowing they love to entertain, we recommended a 5’ Galley Workstation for its flexibility to serve a variety of tasks from everyday wash station to party central with just a quick change of accessories. Located in the heart of the home, the kitchen is visible from all angles and needed to present a clean, flush look with the cabinets and appliances. Special features include LED strip lighting in the upper niche cabinets to highlight special art pieces. Beautiful walnut panels wrap the cabinetry and serve a dual purpose around the fold-up wall cabinets by the cooktop; they provide just enough depth for custom spice shelves. Notice the end panel detailing on the Shaker-style, custom cabinets. A legrand electrical outlet (three-prong) that pops out with light pressure can be seen at the end of the peninsula - its' finish is consistent with other surfaces and fixtures. This island is actually a green stain, not grey as pictured. An otherwise dark kitchen was brightened by removing the old blue tile, adding a skylight, and both recessed and pendant lighting. The flamed upatuba countertops give it a rustic feeling. Photo by Karen Anderson

Included in this kitchen was a desk area crafted from the same quarter sawn white oak to match the cabinetry. Previously this kitchen had been too tight for words. Moving out some unusable closets in the entry hall and some load bearing walls between the living room and dining room allowed us to create a workable open living space.

Light pours into this kitchen via a bespoke feature roof lantern. A mix of high level light wood kitchen cupboards with natural wood low level kitchen cupboards creates a nice contrast against a light and bright room.

The Subzero refrigerator and freezer drawers are completely built into the fir cabinetry to create a seamless look. The dark paint enhances the beauty of the fir cabinetry (Benjamin Moore Mink).

The chestnut stained white oak cabinetry paired with the wooden floors gives this kitchen a modern, yet cozy feel. The homeowner had mission style furniture in their house, and this style of cabinetry was designed to fit the rest of the homeowner's house. - Allison Caves, CKD Caves Kitchens

Solid Quartzite Slab Backsplash with geometric pendants and hanging wall sconces set this kitchen apart. Grey stained cabinets with a Sub-Zero fridge that blends right in. The 36" red knobbed Wolf range cement this classic kitchen with a simple dry wall wrapped range hood.
