Meal preparation & clean-up is a group activity for this family of 5, and full days are spent baking, cooking & canning together. They needed more functional storage and wished for a spacious and beautiful place to congregate and work seamlessly together. The peninsula and non-structural arch that divided the kitchen from the family room were removed in order to create a large open area. Also removed were the dated soffits which instantly created the feeling of higher ceilings and allowed a feature wall of beautiful encaustic tiles to run all the way up behind the custom plaster hood. Turning and positioning the new island along the width of the window wall gave the family twice as much counter space and seating. The space that was once a hallway became the perfect place to position a dining table. The new 8' window washes the space in an abundance of inviting natural daylight, showcasing views to the greenbelt adjacent to their property. The hand distressed hickory cabinet run - custom designed to house a 5' Galley Workstation - has a furniture feel and its own distinctive hardware. Classic patterned encaustic tiles and favorite colors were incorporated to reflect the family's preferences for a modern Spanish colonial feel. Our clients purchased a 1963 home that had never been updated! They wanted to redesign the central living area, which included the kitchen, formal dining and living room/den. Their original kitchen was small and completely closed off from the rest of the house. They wanted to repurpose the formal living room into the new formal dining room and open up the kitchen to the den and add a large island with seating for casual dining. The original den was now a nice living room, open to the kitchen, but also with a great view to their new pool! They wanted to keep some walls for their fun New Orleans one-of-a-kind artwork. They also did not want to be able to see the kitchen from the entryway. They also wanted a bar area built in somewhere, they just weren’t sure where. Our designers did an amazing job on this project, figuring out where to cut walls, where to keep them, replaced windows with doors, bringing the outdoors in and really brightening up the entire space. Can you believe that this Kitchen used to be four separate rooms with a closet in the center that housed the furnace? Years ago, this client came to us, wanting to explore the idea of demolishing the house and starting new. After further discussion, we decided the best decision was to remodel the interior to make it exactly as they wanted, housing the clients and her mother. The clients found these awesome schoolhouse pendants that we up-cycled to add charm to this eclectic Kitchen. The themes of this Kitchen truly reflect the beautiful outdoor garden that the client loves to tend to in her spare time, blurring the line between the outdoor and indoors.

Nestled on a quiet street in a small town outside of Boston, this transitional style home underwent a massive overhaul. While the front facade was left largely untouched, save for a mudroom addition to connect the main house and the garage, the back of the house was extended for multiple living spaces. The addition includes a spacious family room with coffered ceiling, built-in benches, and a large sun-filled breakfast nook. The ten foot long custom oak table can seat fifteen! Above the family room addition is the new master suite- the large bathroom with freestanding tub and custom steam shower features gorgeous marble tile in a laser-cut geometric pattern. Downstairs, a new laundry room and office are divided from the hallway to the mudroom by glass pocket doors. The remaining existing rooms were updated with new finishes and paint in shades of gray to refresh this now beautiful home.
