If you fear that a variety of materials and colors will look “too busy”, then consider this masterpiece of mixed elements that created a warm, rich, and layered one-of-a kind environment. Custom cabinetry combines frameless full overlay with flush inset construction; doors are both Shaker and slab. While most of the perimeter is lightly-stained rift cut white oak, the island and paneled backsplashes are Farrow & Ball’s “School House White”; the hutch is their pale blue-gray “Pigeon”. Two styles of Honey Bronze hardware comingle with the hutch’s simple polished nickel knobs. Open hutch shelves are rift cut oak; their gallery rails are brass. Faucets are polished nickel and the island pendant is aged iron. Even the countertops display variation: the sink wall, cooking nook and hutch are “Bianco Extra” marble, 2” thick with waterfall ends at the sink; 2” thick slabs with standard overhangs at the rangetop; and a thinner slab with traditional ogee edges on the hutch. Offering contrast on the island is 2” thick honed and leathered “Jet Mist” granite. The charming vent hood incorporates a scalloped detail and more oak. Slender furniture legs enhance the hutch, while 4” brass cuffs on the square island legs add sparkle. This project was designed in collaboration with Andy Toth and Leitenberger Design Group. A great view of the front of the island which has a Belfast sink in the middle, an integrated dishwasher to one side, and integrated bins to the other side. In a 600mm wide cupboard, we can fit two 40 litre bins which is plenty for a normal household! Behind the island you can see two tall doors; these are the integrated fridge and freezer. The handles are from the Sparkbrook range from Armac Martin and they are in a burnished brass finish.

A perfect little spot to take a break while cooking! We designed this banquette seat to have drawers underneath for additional storage in the kitchen. On one side, we included a bookcase and on the other side are a couple of tall larders, one of which houses a Megaflow. We love how well the paint colour (Livid by Little Greene) goes with the upholstery that our client chose & sourced.

While keeping in mind the limitations of the customer, but also their needs, we managed to recreate their space with custom cabinets in a soft gray with trim to match. The quartz countertops and backsplash brought in the existing tile floor finish that was to remain.

The kitchen with a decidedly New England-style motif, with cabinetry painted in 'turn of the century' standards, where a thin coat of plaster is applied to the wood and then sanded smooth prior to applying the final paint finish. An antique butcher-block table at the end of the island reinforces the vintage feel.

Packed into this kitchen is an American F/F, hidden entrance to the utility room, extra deep worktops on the sink run, and a customer radiator surround. We worked with the inconsistencies of spacing while gaining maximum storage and ample space for prep, cooking and dishing up. This allowed our clients to streamline their home and find this a much more enjoyable space.

When it came to appliances, the homeowner felt that the original 48” range with two lower ovens in the original kitchen were functional, but far too low for comfortable use. The solution was a 36” range top that still offered plenty of burners with pots and pans storage below. The double ovens with concealed warming drawer underneath offer her the function she desired at a more comfortable working height. The microwave is a useful tool, but one they wanted out of sight, so under counter it went. There was even a plan for small appliances, which are now housed behind a closed door adjacent to the ovens, so that clutter is minimized, keeping everything in its place.
