-The kitchen was isolated but was key to project’s success, as it is the central axis of the first level -The designers renovated the entire lower level to create a configuration that opened the kitchen to every room on lower level, except for the formal dining room -New double islands tripled the previous counter space and doubled previous storage -Six bar stools offer ample seating for casual family meals and entertaining -With a nod to the children, all upholstery in the Kitchen/ Breakfast Room are indoor/outdoor fabrics -Removing & shortening walls between kitchen/family room/informal dining allows views, a total house connection, plus the architectural changes in these adjoining rooms enhances the kitchen experience -Design aesthetic was to keep everything neutral with pops of color and accents of dark elements -Cream cabinetry contrasts with dark stain accents on the island, hood & ceiling beams -Back splash is over-scaled subway tile; pewter cabinetry hardware -Fantasy Brown granite counters have a "leather-ed" finish -The focal point and center of activity now stems from the kitchen – it’s truly the Heart of this Home. The new kitchen space was once the ill-conceived location of a guest bath and a closet for the master bedroom. We solved the layout issue by placing the kitchen where the guest bath was and a new guest bath in the former location of the kitchen. This opened the living, dining and kitchen area of the home to create a space that is ideal for entertaining.

We added oak where the old wall was and staggered the remaining tile into the new flooring. (The tile continues into the powder room, replacing it would have meant replacing that floor also.)

Furthering her plan to enhance the room's architecture, Suzanne turned one corner of the kitchen into a cheery dining area with an L-shaped built-in bench that mimics the cabinetry. To keep the dining nook cozy (not restaurant-like) she surrounded the metal bistro table with slipcovered armchairs and hung a sparkly chandelier above. Cooking essentials are all within reach for the serious chefs in this home! Faced with a cramped eat-in kitchen our job was to both maximize and open up the space. By relocating the refrigerator and surrounding it with pantry cabinets, we were able to create more counter space and allow space for two chefs. Warm stained-wood open corner shelving was installed to display the chefs’ favorite items and keep them right at an arm's reach. The breakfast table is now positioned at the window, giving diners a view of the beautiful backyard. The finishes (Executive Cabinetry - Putnam door style in Alabaster paint; Belgian Blue Satin quartz counters by Alleanza) blend seamlessly with the rest of the home.
