This large classic family room was thoroughly redesigned into an inviting and cozy environment replete with carefully-appointed artisanal touches from floor to ceiling. Master millwork and an artful blending of color and texture frame a vision for the creation of a timeless sense of warmth within an elegant setting. To achieve this, we added a wall of paneling in green strie and a new waxed pine mantel. A central brass chandelier was positioned both to please the eye and to reign in the scale of this large space. A gilt-finished, crystal-edged mirror over the fireplace, and brown crocodile embossed leather wing chairs blissfully comingle in this enduring design that culminates with a lacquered coral sideboard that cannot but sound a joyful note of surprise, marking this room as unwaveringly unique.Peter Rymwid

Welcome to an Updated English home. While the feel was kept English, the home has modern touches to keep it fresh and modern. The family room was the most modern of the rooms so that there would be comfortable seating for family and guests. The family loves color, so the addition of orange was added for more punch.

The homeowners contacted Barbara Elza Hirsch to redesign three rooms. They were looking to create a New England Coastal inspired home with transitional, modern and Scandinavian influences. Here in the family room we updated the bookcases, fireplace and added new furniture throughout. The color scheme included pale blues, light green, whites, teals and orange. This gorgeous renovation has been designed and built by Richmond Hill Design + Build and offers a floor plan that suits today’s lifestyle. A traditional brick fireplace gives this spacious family room a cozy feel. Using gas instead of wood is both clean and easy to use. The one quarter walls and columns allow for an open feel while defining the space.
