We gave this industrial time capsule an urban facelift by enhancing the 19-century architecture with a mix of metals, textures and sleek surfaces to appeal to a sassy & youthful lifestyle. Transcending time and place, we designed this loft to be clearly confident, uniquely refined while maintaining its authentic bones.

Tiny house on wheels designed and built for a subtropical climate by The Tiny House Company in Brisbane, Australia. The main living space features a retractable bed controlled wirelessly by remote. By day the space is a lounge room with 2.6m ceiling, by night a bedroom with raking ceiling up to 3.5m.

Though DIY living room makeovers and bedroom redecorating can be an exciting undertaking, these projects often wind up uncompleted and with less than satisfactory results. This was the case with our client, a young professional in his early 30’s who purchased his first apartment and tried to decorate it himself. Short on interior décor ideas and unhappy with the results, he decided to hire an interior designer, turning to Décor Aid to transform his one-bedroom into a classy, adult space. Our client already had invested in several key pieces of furniture, so our Junior Designer worked closely with him to incorporate the existing furnishings into the new design and give them new life. Though the living room boasted high ceilings, the space was narrow, so they ditched the client’s sectional in place of a sleek leather sofa with a smaller footprint. They replaced the dark gray living room paint and drab brown bedroom paint with a white wall paint color to make the apartment feel larger. Our designer introduced chrome accents, in the form of a Deco bar cart, a modern chandelier, and a campaign-style nightstand, to create a sleek, contemporary design. Leather furniture was used in both the bedroom and living room to add a masculine feel to the home refresh.

This recent project in Navan included: new mudroom built-in, home office and media centre ,a small bathroom vanity, walk in closet, master bedroom wall paneling and bench, a bedroom media centre with lots of drawer storage, a large ensuite vanity with make up area and upper cabinets in high gloss laquer. We also made a custom shower floor in african mahagony with natural hardoil finish. The design for the project was done by Penny Southam. All exterior finishes are bookmatched mahagony veneers and the accent colour is a stained quartercut engineered veneer. The inside of the cabinets features solid dovetailed mahagony drawers with the standard softclose. This is one of those projects that shows how fantastic modern design can work in an older home. Old and new design can not only coexist, it can transform a dated place into something new and exciting. Or as in this case can emphasize the beauty of the old and the new features of the house. The beautifully crafted original mouldings, suddenly draw attention against the reduced design of the Wenge wall paneling.
