This is another favorite home redesign project. Throughout my career, I've worked with some hefty budgets on a number of high-end projects. You can visit Paris Kitchens and Somerset Kitchens, companies that I have worked for previously, to get an idea of what I mean. I could start name dropping here, but I won’t, because that's not what this project is about. This project is about a small budget and a happy homeowner. This was one of the first projects with a custom interior design at a fraction of a regular budget. I could use the term “value engineering” to describe it, because this particular interior was heavily value engineered. The result: a sophisticated interior that looks so much more expensive than it is. And one ecstatic homeowner. Mission impossible accomplished. ​ P.S. Don’t ask me how much it cost, I promised the homeowner that their impressive budget will remain confidential. In any case, no one would believe me even if I spilled the beans.

The Istoria Bespoke Pale Oak is our most popular bespoke colour. The processes the floor goes through leave the wood feeling rough to the touch and looking as raw as possible. If you want a raw, unfinished appearance this is the colour for you. As it only seals the timber rather than colouring it, it is available on any raw timber: the only colour variation you will have is from the raw material itself.

Before putting this lovely cottage on the market our clients asked us to revamp and restyle the whole house ready for selling. We had all the rooms redecorated in modern neutral colours and rearranged the furniture and accessories ready for viewings. We are pleased to say that the property had four asking price offers within a week and sold for over the asking price.

Our clients are a family of four living in a four bedroom substantially sized detached home. Although their property has adequate bedroom space for them and their two children, the layout of the downstairs living space was not functional and it obstructed their everyday life, making entertaining and family gatherings difficult. Our brief was to maximise the potential of their property to develop much needed quality family space and turn their non functional house into their forever family home. Concept The couple aspired to increase the size of the their property to create a modern family home with four generously sized bedrooms and a larger downstairs open plan living space to enhance their family life. The development of the design for the extension to the family living space intended to emulate the style and character of the adjacent 1970s housing, with particular features being given a contemporary modern twist. Our Approach The client’s home is located in a quiet cul-de-sac on a suburban housing estate. Their home nestles into its well-established site, with ample space between the neighbouring properties and has considerable garden space to the rear, allowing the design to take full advantage of the land available. The levels of the site were perfect for developing a generous amount of floor space as a new extension to the property, with little restrictions to the layout & size of the site. The size and layout of the site presented the opportunity to substantially extend and reconfigure the family home to create a series of dynamic living spaces oriented towards the large, south-facing garden. The new family living space provides: Four generous bedrooms Master bedroom with en-suite toilet and shower facilities. Fourth/ guest bedroom with French doors opening onto a first floor balcony. Large open plan kitchen and family accommodation Large open plan dining and living area Snug, cinema or play space Open plan family space with bi-folding doors that open out onto decked garden space Light and airy family space, exploiting the south facing rear aspect with the full width bi-fold doors and roof lights in the extended upstairs rooms. The design of the newly extended family space complements the style & character of the surrounding residential properties with plain windows, doors and brickwork to emulate the general theme of the local area. Careful design consideration has been given to the neighbouring properties throughout the scheme. The scale and proportions of the newly extended home corresponds well with the adjacent properties. The new generous family living space to the rear of the property bears no visual impact on the streetscape, yet the design responds to the living patterns of the family providing them with the tailored forever home they dreamed of. A young family with a toddler bought a Decorist Makeover because they wanted budget-friendly decorating help for the living room in their new, bungalow-style Northern California residence. They were starting from scratch, and needed to affordably furnish the entire space in a way that was kid friendly, but adult-centric...a comfortable place to entertain guests, and relax and enjoy the fireplace and view. Decorist designer Chrissy recommended an orange and gray palette, incorporating pattern and texture through the geometric rug, modern trellis pillows and the Mongolian fur throw pillow. And to be kid-friendly without compromising style, she chose tables with rounded edges, from the mid-century inspired oval wood coffee table to the pair of metal + marble CB2 side tables. The renovation of our Renfrew Residence completely reimagined what we expected from a classic Vancouver Special home. The boxy shape of Vancouver Specials was a result of maximizing floor space under the zoning guidelines of their time. Builders in the 1960s and 1980s saw an opportunity and made the most of it! Today, renovating these homes are a common and rewarding project for Design Build firms. We love transforming Vancouver Specials because they have a lot of versatility and great foundations! Our Renfrew Residence is a great example of how all the common modernizations of a Vancouver Special are even better with Design Build. To begin, we gave this home a more modern layout. We opened the walls upstairs, expanded the master bathroom, and gave the home an overall open feeling. In order to do so, we restructured and moved some of the walls.
