Here’s a 2020 kitchen with real WOW-factor. The client from Radlett near St Albans, wanted a space that was bang on trend and perfect for entertaining loved ones, but also a multi-functional space that they could enjoy the kids growing up in. There’s so much seating space in this area now, there’s certainly room for everyone, and the abundance of Siemens ovens makes this a real hosting kitchen. Our favourite part of this kitchen? The concrete quartz worktop. The industrial trend is really making a statement this year, but this hard-wearing worktop will last for years to come!

"We actually looked into [concrete] at first but then shied away because my parents have concrete and they don’t really like theirs. But we came back to concrete because it’s way more cost effective, we wouldn’t have to have any seams, and we like the look the best." This mountain modern cabin is located in the mountains adjacent to an organic farm overlooking the South Toe River. The highest portion of the property offers stunning mountain views, however, the owners wanted to minimize the home’s visual impact on the surrounding hillsides. The house was located down slope and near a woodland edge which provides additional privacy and protection from strong northern winds.

The existing condominium was spacious , but lacked definition. It was simply too rambling and shapeless to be comfortable or functional. The existing builder-grade kitchen did not have enough counter or cabinet space. And the existing window sills were too high to appreciate the views outside. To accommodate our clients' needs, we carved out the spaces and gave subtle definition to its spaces without obstructing the views within or the sense os spaciousness. We raised the kitchen and dining space on a platform to define it as well as to define the space of the adjacent living area. The platform also allowed better views to the exterior. We designed and fabricated custom concrete countertops for the kitchen and master bath. The concrete ceilings were sprayed with sound attenuating insulation to abate the echoes. The master bath underwent a transformation. To enlarge the feel of the space, we designed and fabricated custom shallow vanity cabinets and a concrete countertop. Protruding from the countertop is the curve of a generous semi-encased porcelain sink. The shower is a room of glass mosaic tiles. The mirror is a simple wall mirror with polished square edges topped by a sleek fluorescent vanity light with a high CRI. Modern Heritage House Queenscliff, Sydney. Garigal Country Architect: RAMA Architects Build: Liebke Projects Photo: Simon Whitbread This project was an alterations and additions to an existing Art Deco Heritage House on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Our aim was to celebrate the honest red brick vernacular of this 5 bedroom home but boldly modernise and open the inside using void spaces, large windows and heavy structural elements to allow an open and flowing living area to the rear. The goal was to create a sense of harmony with the existing heritage elements and the modern interior, whilst also highlighting the distinction of the new from the old. So while we embraced the brick facade in its material and scale, we sought to differentiate the new through the use of colour, scale and form. (RAMA Architects)

This modern kitchen also features rustic accents and creates a statement kitchen with little use of color. The White receded panel cabinets and subway tile create a fresh backdrop. The precast concrete countertops in gray offer clean contrast and leave the room for the super cool retro and industrial pendant light fixtures and the sliding barn door leading to the pantry. All DNS stainless steel appliances.
