The transformation of this high-rise condo in the heart of San Francisco was literally from floor to ceiling. Studio Becker custom built everything from the bed and shoji screens to the interior doors and wall paneling...and of course the kitchen, baths and wardrobes! It’s all Studio Becker in this master bedroom - teak light boxes line the ceiling, shoji sliding doors conceal the walk-in closet and house the flat screen TV. A custom teak bed with a headboard and storage drawers below transition into full-height night stands with mirrored fronts (with lots of storage inside) and interior up-lit shelving with a light valance above. A window seat that provides additional storage and a lounging area finishes out the room. Teak wall paneling with a concealed touchless coat closet, interior shoji doors and a desk niche with an inset leather writing surface and cord catcher are just a few more of the customized features built for this condo. This Collection M kitchen, in Manhattan, high gloss walnut burl and Rimini stainless steel, is packed full of fun features, including an eating table that hydraulically lifts from table height to bar height for parties, an in-counter appliance garage in a concealed elevation system and Studio Becker’s electric Smart drawer with custom inserts for sushi service, fine bone china and stemware. Combinations of teak and black lacquer with custom vanity designs give these bathrooms the Asian flare the homeowner’s were looking for. This project has been featured on HGTV's Million Dollar Rooms

間を切り取る家今回の計画は古くからある分譲地の一画の建替えの計画です。北面が道路に面し、3面は古くから立ち並ぶ住宅街です。外部に面して大きく開くことは難しく内部でいかに豊かな空間を作ることをコンセプトとしました。内部の居住スペースと外部的要素のあるエントランスとを分け、エントランス部分を外部のようなしつらえとすることで、内部にいながらも外を感じられる空間にできないかと考えました。そこで、内部と外部的な空間と外部の開口部をデザインすることで、心地よい違和感を与えることを試みました。開口部の厚みを極限まで薄くつくり、この開口部を連続させることによって、外部と内部の境目をゆるやかに仕切りました。エントランス部分は美術館にきたような静けさのある空間として空を絵のように切り取る開口部、この開口部は、刻々と変わる空の色や雲の形によって全く違う表情を見せる開口部となっています。ぼんやりと、いつまでも眺めていたくなります。エントランスと居住空間を分ける開口部は、外部の開口部と同じデザインとし連続させることで切り取られた空間をどこからでも見ることができます。通り過ぎていく光をとらえ、人間の知覚体験（見ること、感じること）に働きかけることにより、空間に入ると四角に切り取られた風景へと視線が自然と向かいます。四季を通じて朝から夜まで絶え間なく変化する光を体感することが促されます。しばらくこの空間に身を置いてみると、普段は気づかない感覚にみまわれるでしょう。「どのように光を感じるか」日常の中の非日常を心地よい違和感で感じ、生活に変化を与えることにより、感覚的な豊かさを感じることができる住宅となりました。

In einem 90er Jahre Apartment Block durften wir eine neue Küche für einen technisch begeisterten Berliner entwerfen. Der schmale aber lichtdurchflutete Küchenraum mit seinen petrol gestrichenen Fensterrahmen gibt den Blick auf eine sonnige Dachterrasse frei. Kühle und zurückhaltende Farben im Inneren lassen die Küche modern und cool erscheinen und setzen einen atmosphärischen Kontrast zum warmen einströmenden Sonnenlicht. Um ein formal ruhiges Bild zu schaffen wurden alle Schubladen- und Schranktüren auf eine einheitliche Höhe geplant. Die Fronten sind aus robustem, schwarzem Fenix gefertigt, das ein softes und mattes Erscheinungsbild schafft und zugleich durch antibakterielle Eigenschaften und Antifingerprinteffekt besticht. Das Innenleben der Schränke wurde aus Eiche gefertigt und stellt eine optische Verbindung zum schönen Eichenboden dar. Zusätzlich zur Arbeitsplatte aus Edelstahl komplementieren ein schwarzes Spülbecken und ein schwarzer Quooker den Look der technoiden Küche.

The layout of this kitchen was not dissimilar to the original but what a difference a few details make. White and plain before with not enough bench space. Increasing the size of the island, moving the stove and sink a bit further apart and maximising the pantry storage have made such a difference to the funtionality here. Lots of drawers too. And then the finishes are wow! Still white with a stainless steel bench but a much crisper white, beautifully detailed timber veneer highlights and matt black tiles with the palest grey grout. Note the grain of the veneer running continuously along the front and then the side of the overhead cabinets. LED lighting recessed to the underside of the overhead cabinet and suspended lower shelf. キッチンは美味しい食事を作るためには欠かせないスペース。毎日使う場所だからこそ、機能性だけではなくおしゃれさにもこだわりたいものです。ここでは、使い勝手の良さやおしゃれさにこだわったモダンスタイルのキッチンのリフォーム事例と、キッチンリフォームのポイントをご紹介します。

キッチンの改善ポイントを考える

まずは、現在使用しているキッチンを見直してみましょう。調理するスペースが狭い、高さが自分の身長に合っていない、収納スペースが少ないなど、キッチンによってさまざまな改善ポイントが見つかるはずです。こうした改善ポイントをもとに、モダンスタイルのキッチンのリフォームを検討しましょう。

動線や広さ、レイアウトの見直し

キッチンスペースは人の動きに合わせてレイアウトすることが重要です。動線を意識して、広さやレイアウトを見直しましょう。広さの目安として、キッチン空間を2～3歩で行き来できるのが良いといわれています。狭すぎず広すぎず、キッチンの通路幅は0.9～1.2m程度に収めると良いでしょう。また、冷蔵庫とシンク、コンロを結ぶ三角形の動線（ワークトライアングル）が正三角形に近いほど、作業効率が良いとされています。3辺の合計が3.6～6.6mに収まるように配置すると、効率良く動ける程よい広さとなるでしょう。次にモダンスタイルのキッチンデザインとレイアウトを特徴別に確認してみましょう。1人で料理をするのか複数人で料理をするのかなど、さまざまなシーンで使い勝手の良いレイアウトを検討してみてください。現在では以下5つのレイアウトが一般的です。

Ⅰ型キッチン
Ⅰ型キッチンは最も一般的なレイアウトで、シンク、調理台、コンロ、冷蔵庫が横一線に並んだタイプのキッチンです。最近では、対面カウンターを付けて背面に収納スペースと冷蔵庫を置くなど、Ⅱ型やアイランド型に似たタイプのレイアウトも人気です。
Ⅱ型キッチン
Ⅱ型キッチンはシンク、調理台、コンロ、冷蔵庫を2カ所に分け、平行に配置することで調理スペースを広げるレイアウトです。調理の際の動線が短くなるというメリットがあります。
L型キッチン
L型キッチンは、シンク、調理台、コンロがL字型に配置されたレイアウトです。ワークトライアングルを作りやすく、動線をコンパクトに抑えることができます。
アイランドキッチン
アイランドキッチンは独立型キッチンとも呼ばれ、シンク、調理台などを壁面から独立させて設置するレイアウトです。調理台を囲むように作業ができるため、家族や友人など複数で楽しみながらキッチンを共有できます。ホームパーティーや料理教室をする際にも便利でしょう。
ペニンシュラキッチン
ペニンシュラは英語で「半島」を意味します。キッチンの左右どちらかが壁に接しているレイアウトを指します。調理スペースがオープンになっているため、リビングやダイニングにいる方とコミュニケーションを取りながら調理できるというメリットがあります。

ビルトイン機器の選択

モダンスタイルのキッチンタイプのレイアウト見直しと同時に、ビルトイン機器も検討されてみてはいかがでしょうか。ビルトイン機器とは、建物や家具、設備などの中に組み込んで利用する機器を指します。システムキッチンには、ビルトインコンロ、レンジフード、オーブンレンジ、食器洗浄乾燥機を組み込むことが可能です。ビルトインであればスタイリッシュにキッチンに溶け込み、インテリアの邪魔にもなりません。新築やリフォームの際に取り入れることをおすすめします。

ビルトインコンロ
ビルトインコンロには、それぞれ火力の異なるバーナーを組み合わせた3つ口タイプが一般的です。天板素材はガラストップが主流となっていますが、他にガラスコート、フッ素コート、ホーロー、アルミ、ステンレスなどがあります。使い勝手やデザイン、価格などを考慮して選択しましょう。
食器洗浄乾燥機
食器洗浄乾燥機 (食洗機) は手洗いよりも少ない水量できれいに食器を洗浄することができるため、新築やキッチンのリフォーム時には食洗機の導入をおすすめします。国内製のビルトイン食洗機の場合は引き出し式になっているタイプが多いのに対し、海外製のビルトイン食洗機は前開き式になっているものが一般的です。国内製・海外製それぞれで、設置業者や設置可能なシステムキッチンが異なる場合があるため注意しましょう。

収納スペースのアイデア

いかにデッドスペースを活かすかがキッチン収納のコツです。％Topicの収納は限られているため、多くの食器や調理器具、調味料などを片付けるための工夫が必要です。ビルトイン機器も限られたスペースできれいに収納する工夫のひとつといえるでしょう。システムキッチンの収納スペース以外のキッチン収納スペースとしては、床下収納が代表的です。床下の他に、壁面収納なども人気です。壁面収納の場合、食器や調理器具だけでなくキッチン家電までも収納し、スタイリッシュで生活感の出ないキッチンを演出することもできるでしょう。
