With nearly 14,000 square feet of transparent planar architecture, In Plane Sight, encapsulates — by a horizontal bridge-like architectural form — 180 degree views of Paradise Valley, iconic Camelback Mountain, the city of Phoenix, and its surrounding mountain ranges. Large format wall cladding, wood ceilings, and an enviable glazing package produce an elegant, modernist hillside composition. The challenges of this 1.25 acre site were few: a site elevation change exceeding 45 feet and an existing older home which was demolished. The client program was straightforward: modern and view-capturing with equal parts indoor and outdoor living spaces. Though largely open, the architecture has a remarkable sense of spatial arrival and autonomy. A glass entry door provides a glimpse of a private bridge connecting master suite to outdoor living, highlights the vista beyond, and creates a sense of hovering above a descending landscape. Indoor living spaces enveloped by pocketing glass doors open to outdoor paradise. The raised peninsula pool, which seemingly levitates above the ground floor plane, becomes a centerpiece for the inspiring outdoor living environment and the connection point between lower level entertainment spaces (home theater and bar) and upper outdoor spaces. The homeowner’s first words to the design team were, “We want modern”, and modern is most certainly what Henck Design gave them. There is a very clean and calm energy in the space that makes for a soothing escape from the chaotic city streets just a few elevator stops below to Penn Square.

This home at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove is a fine illustration of how rustic can be comfortable and contemporary. Postcard from Paris provided all of the exterior and interior specifications as well as furnished the home. The firm achieved the modern rustic look through an effective combination of reclaimed hardwood floors, stone and brick surfaces, and iron lighting with clean, streamlined plumbing, tile, cabinetry, and furnishings. Among the standout elements in the home are the reclaimed hardwood oak floors, brick barrel vaulted ceiling in the kitchen, suspended glass shelves in the terrace-level bar, and the stainless steel Lacanche range. Beautiful transformation from a closed up 60’s kitchen to a modern Euro style, open concept kitchen. Nothing was left untouched in this project. Intensive design and hard work combined, ended up with a beautiful open kitchen. Dual tone counter-tops, glossy white cabinets with engineered floors makes this kitchen shine on its own. The island was placed horizontal to the living room as an focal point of the theme.

This colorful. contemporary/modern kitchen is open and bright! The custom glass tile is from Marin Designworks. The kitchen features two island. One that is dark stain and the other bright blue. Both islands feature an undermount white granite sink.
